Coravin fun - Brunel Cailloux + ring in s (My place, Burwood): From Coravin. Honeysuckle, ripe stone fruit, wax, touch of nashi pear, honey, marzipan, quite a rich nose. Juicy, fleshy, buttery texture; insinuates itself into the nooks and crannies of the palate like a dollop of cream with stone fruit and honey, long, lush, hints of slight bitter almond on the finish isn't off putting. Lovely.

Coravin fun - Ch. de Beaucastel (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Richer than the 2007, marzipan, apricot, slight almond meal, sweet spice over a little bees wax, honey and cream. Juicy, fleshy, apricot, again the apricot stone bitterness but more subdued, nominal texture but quite glycerol, a little honey in support, balanced, complete. Lovely and in a good spot.

New Offline Venue Recce Dinner @ Blacklock City; 9/15/2021-9/16/2021: Deeper golden colour than the 07 Clos de Papes which preceded it. On the nose rich and honeyed, which continues onto the palate. A kind of pineapple, almost pina-colada quality to it, reminiscent of the most turbocharged Cali chardonnays. Really lovely wine - better balanced than the rest of this note makes it sound.

Chateauneuf du Pape lunch (Frank's place in Matraville): From Coravin. Aromas of bees wax, marzipan, almond, apricot and honey. In the mouth it's rich but also quite fleshy with apricot, almond meal, marzipan and a little textured graininess on the mid palate. Nice.

From Coravin. Medium plus intensity aromas of almond, marzipan, cream, slight bruised apple, sweet spice, slight peach, slight banana, bees wax...rich. In the mouth it's rather splendid, fleshy, juicy acidity keeps thing fresh, a little almond skin bitterness joins the fruit, cream and sweet spice. Stunningly good. Wowser. In an exceedingly good spot.

Beaucastel Birthday dinner (Bistro Moncur, Sydney): Fresh stone fruit, honey, quite vibrant with a touch of bees wax...on the palate it's juicy, fleshy, stone fruit and with some mid palate breadth. Slipped down all too easily...

Coravin fun - Beaucastel review (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Despite only a years difference this is far more fruit forward than the 2007. tinned apricots, peaches in honey syrup, bees wax, quite floral. More of the same on the palate though I find the fruit a little more muted. Again a little fruit stone bitterness. Almond joins on the palate. Yum.

CHE95 100% Roussanne. It was very cool! Deep, intense, oily wine. Well matured, creamy and juicy, apricot, mango, peach, honey, complex and long finish. RP95 WS94. Verdict - excellent!

At Wasabi, Noosa on Australia Day. This is simply a beautiful wine that matches most Grand Cru Burgundies I've experienced with its poise, texture and drive. The nose is a lovely complex of honeysuckle, bush lemon, quince, oats and limestone. The palate was intense and unctuous but balanced by layers of texture and a great purity that come from only the best of viticulture. The finish lingers and lingers. A terrific wine that matched the Japanese inspired menu just perfectly.

Oh my ears and whiskers. We chose this wine to pair with Sichuan spicy food, and we could not have been more correct. Wow, perfect! A blend of 80% Roussanne, 15% Grenache blanc and 5% of other varieties. Pale, almost thick yellow on the eye was promising. Bouquet reminded us of being in a flower shop and a candy shop at the same time as the melody of floral sweet honey drifted along our noses. Luvly. Palate of smooth, voluptuous, creamy, slightly acidic fruits blended perfectly with the Sichuan spicy fish dish. Just stunning!

Drunk at Chef David Lai's terrific new restaurant, Fish School. Taking on a dark yellow hue, this wine looks and smells quite mature and evolved. There is ripe mango and honeysuckle on the nose, sprinkled with hints of mineral. It has just enough acidity to create freshness, but otherwise is quite mellow and rounded. I expect in a year or two, it will go into its usual oxidized sleeping state. So enjoy it soon, or be prepared to wait 10 years...

It is clear golden yellow in the glass. Intense gold colour. The nose is medium plus intense. It has notes of stone fruit (peaches, lychee), mandarin, and a clear hint of wax. Very complex and appealing. The palate is full bodied and intense. very complex with similar fruits as the nose and with a very long aftertaste. It drinks excellently now, but will probably evolve for another 5 years. 4 = outstanding
One of my favorite white wines. Beautiful gold color with sweet honey aromas. Air for an hour before it shows itself fully. Complex and smooth on the palate. This has been great to drink for a few years now. Excellent.

Chateauneuf du Pape Tasting (Wine Route Savion): Poured at the beginning of the tasting, and remained in the glass for two hours till the end. Pretty light gold color. Very closed at the beginning, but developed beautiful aromas of nuts and honey during the evening. Excellent.

A real gem of a wine which appears to polarize opinion ! Pale green gold. Nose initially closed but opened to reveal complex of honeysuckle, bush lemon, quince and limestone. Palate beautifully balanced with real grand cru Burgundy length and poise. A delicious and complete wine.

Popped and poured. Not cold enough at first. Colour - Gold. Looked like a Spatlese or Auslese Riesling. Nose - Muted at first. Some petrol, honey and grass. Palate - Honey, melon. Prickly, almost as if sparkling. Disappointing at first. Better when we chilled it a bit. For the price, this is a huge letdown. $160CAD is an extraordinary amount to pay for a bottle of wine, and implies an absolutely ethereal experience. This was great, but not extraordinary. It had quite a streak of acid, so would probably have complemented food quite well.

2nd Technical tasting course #1 (Wine Road Tel-Aviv): (blind tasting) transparent yellowish color; pineapple fruity aroma (not so impressing) high acidity, med-body, medium level of tannin & bitterness, sweet flavors, medium harmony, short & bitter after-taste. Second time in June that I do not enjoy this wine!

– tasted a single glass non-blind over approx. 15 minutes – – 100% old-vine Roussanne –
NOSE: crazy expressive Nose of musk, oily lanolin, and pineapple. TASTE: full bodied and buttery; honeysuckle; good minerality without being a mineral-bomb; ridiculously long finish. Showy. Serious. Gut: 92 - 94.
Hedonistic Diner, Part 2 (Restaurant Le Défi, Sprang-Capelle): Infanticide. Hard to evaluate at the moment. Lots of minerality and acidity going on. Almost made me think Riesling. But it doesn't have the lemony, zesty notes. The fruit is more tropical and oily. Crammed with potential. Would love to try this in 10 years. For now, 17/20

Initially in the nose there is a resemblance to cider and Champagne, but it is soon replaced by apples, flowers, herbs, cream and perfumed old lady soap. The nose is somewhat closed, not shy but rather like a spring gathering energy, waiting for its release. Too bad. There is a feeling of something great hiding here. The patient ones will find out, and probably be rewarded.
The wine is a lot more expressive in the mouth, very concentrated and compact, extremely creamy and with a never ending aftertaste. The bitterness is instant and lingers to the very end. The acid is distinct, probably much higher than one would expect, still it struggles to really cut through the heavy body of this wine. But this is very good, nicely balanced and so well made. Beautiful.

94/100. CLASSY
Offered blind by Alex Che, my call was 2006, Bordeaux, Sauvignon-Semillon Blend. Well, wrong!
It’s a white Chateauneuf-du-Pape, old vines, vintage 2006, made with 100% Rousanne.
Deep and shiny golden color, super oily, ultra lush, succulent and bold, as if it was a dry wine with a bit of noble rot. Not really.
Bouquet has tons of yellow tropical fruits, mangoes, pineapple, and wax. Not cloying. Very heavy on alco, 14% abv.
Not my style, but the pedigree is there. Classy.
WS 94, RP 95
