Saturday (Mostly) Bordeaux Lunch with Friends (Prairie Grass - Northbrook IL): Tasted double blind. Rich black cherry start-to-finish with floral notes and plenty of spice, probably too influenced by too much new oak. Good concentration and length, and very tasty overall. Very modern styled, in fact I thought this from Bordeaux, and other tasters were also in that (non Nebbiolo) camp.

Just entering its drinking window. (Straight from the bottle) Deep fruit on the mid-palate, noticeable acids, moderate tannins. Vanilla on the finish and aftertaste, which dominates the proceedings thereafter - too much for my taste. I thought at 13 years this would be well into its drinking window but I'd leave it at least 2 more before having another bottle. Once that fruit turns autumnal and the vanilla goes away it should be really special. (+1hr in glass) (Professionally stored at cellar temp).

Pretty. Classic tar and flowers profile. Also some red berry fruit, a little cigar box, and some tea scents. Velvety tannins. Medium length finish. Well balanced.
Did not decant this and there was no sediment to speak of. Aired for about an hour in the glass.

Bricking around the edge. Dark fruit is still obvious but those dusty, funky notes we love in a wine like this. Drank with grilled lamb. Simply awesome!

Had at a reception for Chiara Boschis and several Italian Barolo collectors. Chiara's barolo was a 2013 Nuova which showed great promise, but was much too young for my taste. We all loved the Ratti - it had matured nicely - Both had been decanted for 3 hours. The Ratti still has many years of aging.

On the palate mature dark cherries, dark chocolate, light sour, earth, tar, well balanced oak, beautiful long finish! Big fan of Renato Ratti. Good now, but will improve for 5-10 years

Gasoline on the nose, floral on the palate. I drank it over two days and it was noticeably better after 24 hours which leads me to believe it'll drink better in another five years.

Very nice Barolo - nose of rose petals, coffee grinds, tar liquorice! Firm and tight fruit grib with nicely integrated tannins! Will leave my last bottles for at least a few years to see how it evolves!

Deliciously ripe, modern Barolo. Dark garnet color, and big inviting nose. Powerful red fruits, coffee and dark chocolate. This has a long life ahead...

Drank as soon as I opened and determined not to decant. Within 30 minutes it lost robustness, but was an excellent choice for lasagna

Tons of VA. Undrinkable. 2 bottles like this. I don’t buy Ratti any more since the VA, even when reined in, is elevated.

One of the best Barolos I've ever had, great complexity with the acidity where it should be.

Outstanding Barolo that is just starting to enter its drinking window. Needed one hour decant to strut its stuff.
