I don’t know if it was the temperature or air time by the time we tasted this, but WOW, this is ready to go with ample fruit in the form of lemon custard, smoked gun flint (not reductive but almost creme brûlée, burnt scents) orange blossom and golden apple. Rich, delineated and mouth filling, even in this more classic, fresh-styled vintage. Grand Cru intensity to the aromas and flavors. There is almost a marmalade/super ripe peach/orange quality to the fruit that makes this a special bottle. Rich without the heaviness. 94-95.

Absolutely ageless, without a touch of development, and one of the better white burgundies I've tasted in the past year. Color, nose and flavor of a newer release. Very shut down on day 1 with the nose giving very little: yellow fruits, some tropical-like elements. Palate really shined with excellent acid/fruit balance, more near-tropical fruits, perfectly integrated oak. Oily, rich, but less so than other Batards, excellent now, this specific bottle has the structure to go another decade, at least. Day 2 was much more open, but barely budged. This could probably stay open for a week. Bravo

Very pale yellow color with slight greenish cast (like you often get with Chablis); classic apple, gravel minerality, touch of mint; hints of oak more noticed on palate (smoke, vanilla, mild notes of butterscotch; viscous, powerful; great balance and complexity with the acid seeming subtle and hidden though very much there when you think of it; hints of toffee and riper apple slowly emerge as the wine airs out and warms over time. Happy to have one more of these and will be in no hurry with it.

Michael Schuster Fine Wine Course Day 5 (Headspace, Hatton Gardens, London): Medium gold. Ripe stone fruits, coconut, vanilla, toast, smoke, nuts, but sadly a hint of acetone from oxidation. Dry, medium (+) acidity, pronounced concentration but a little short on the finish - just starting to dry out. Definitely showing early premox - suggest drinking up as the other bottles showed greater premox.

This producer did excellent work in 2008, and the Batard Montrachet is no exception. Classic, balanced, with a long and delicious finish. I'd be inclined to drink these sooner than later, but it would be fun to see how this a bottle or two might evolve.

I liked this better than the last bottle a year ago. Honeysuckle, rich, supple, honey and spice. Very much Batard. I slightly preferred the J Noel Gagnard Batard, but most liked this the best.

A trio of Gagnard Batard: 08 Blain, 08 Jean Noel, and 07 Delagrange. A lovely trio, which everyone enjoyed. Favorites were mixed among the eight of us. I really liked the 08 Blain, and for my palate it was by far the most pleasing, and was a real beauty. The 08 Jean Noel was holding back, and while harder to appreciate now, this will be very good over time. The Delagrange was good but less impressive.

Just stupid good. This has it all and not a hint of premox. Very young. A real sense of presence on the palate and finish but in an incredibly elegant package. Refined. Lemon curd is a good description of the fruit but it is much finer than that. Extraordinary. Praying to that premox will pass this by. Until then, this is ready to enjoy in a very youthful way. Give it whatever points you wish.

Young. Really complex and intense nose, honey, lemon, spice. A little light on the palate but very nice flavors of lemon and peach with great length and intensity. Solid Batard that is very enjoyable now.

Light straw color. Light bodied. Surprisingly more like a Chevy to me, rather than Batard. Citrus, floral, and good mineral notes. A bit thin and lacks mid plate depth to me. Not as good as the Criot-Batard-Montrachet imo.

Young but nice, drank side by side w the 07 which is a totally different wine. The 08 is almost riesling like, Alsatian, a touch of Gewurz bite, a good deal of tropical fruit and lush floral notes. Not nearly as deep as the 07, but very good and interesting.

There’s some light barrel toast to the aroma, posh enough to be called pain grille, but I’ll just call it light barrel toast to avoid being labelled a tosser. The fruits are ripe and it literally drips with sappy white peach and preserved lemons. There are also notes of honeysuckle, struck match and there’s a high mineral content. It lacks no power and is quite buxom, yet is nicely restrained Batard. It is exquisitely balanced and a joy to drink young.

Confrerie Burgundy Trip – Day 3 (Chassagne-Montrachet /Vosne-Romanee): Perfumed first nose of minerals, then a touch of honey, flowers and lime. More muted than the Criots. Precise and focused on the palate with medium to high acidity. Steely, elegant and less round than the Criots. Precise finish and very persistent.

Shared this with Xavier94. His note is spot on but his score (which I wrote down at the time) was more a 95+. I concur with that assessment.
