Opened and was a little disjointed with some muted fruit and VA. After decanting it came together with the fruit still not really showing thru but having nice tertiary flavors that I love in old Brunello. Not great but what a treat from the great Gianfranco Soldera who is no longer with us.

It took almost 8 hrs for this wine to open. After it is opened up, the nose expresses iron, blood, dark fruit, prunes, herbs, and meat. Palate is rich and ripe with round fruit. The finish is not as long as the 84 and 99 tonight. This wine will improve with more aging.

Soldera v.s. Biondi Brunello night (Bishan): Stood upright days beforehand. Allowed to breathe for about 2.5 hours in bottle before drinking. Drank over next 2 hours. Appearance is clear, medium intensity, garnet colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of salty stony minerality, mild perfumed florals, bits of intermittent earth. Developed. On the palate, dry, good high acidity, medium+ alcohol (14%), grippy medium+ tannins, full body. Medium flavour intensity, with flavours of classic Sangiovese sour red cherries, sweet red plums, sweet tea leaves, earth, minerality. Long finish. Maybe there was just too much hype about this wine. It was decidedly underwhelming. A good classic traditional Brunello profile, with very good structure and exellent mouth-feel, but somehow feels hollow. Fruit concentration not up to expectations. Could this be a case of insufficient air time in a decanter? I don't really think so, but if in the remote possibility that it is so, then this is a damm bloody fussy wine. Drink up. Need to try a better vintage of this at some point in the future.

6 hours slow ox. The nose was floral with flowers, dried fruit and dried meat cure. But the palate was meaty with a bit off-balanced. Might be an off bottle?

Athens Wine Event; 4/7/2012-4/8/2012 (Athens, Greece): Blind tasted. Well aged and bricking in colour. Pure, well round and fully secondary now with earthy notes on the nose. Bordeauxesque nose in many respects. On the palate it still alive but has seen better days and we would suggest one drinks these earlier than later. 93-94

allowed 18 hour bottle breath; high level of minerality in nose -- very very different from the 93 non-Ris I tried three months before; rich palate with nice structure; mid-length aftertaste; quite high in acidity

Tasted blind. Notes of sour cherries and leather. I didn't like this - too acidic and out of balance for my palate. Wasn't surprised to find out it was a Brunello.

Soldera mini-Vertical (Il Grappolo Blu (CPH)): A little volatile acidity were present together with some wet cardboard which initially made me think that the wine was defective. There was long discussions about whether or not it was corked but to me it definately was. The taste had almost no fruit a very dry finish and almost seemed hollow in the middle.

The first bottle was unfortunately corked. the second on the other hand was the reality of a dream where you're 14 years old on a worn-in leather couch. your eyes are closed with your tongue in a girl's mouth. holy shit this is fucking amazing.

Richly extracted and quite powerful. Almost rasiny on the nose. The first bottle was unfortunately corked, the second rocked our world. I would guess that this is still rather a baby.

The Wine Summit; 6/2/2006-6/3/2006 (The Post Hotel in Lake Louise): Very deep color – almost a brooding presence; this wine needed some time to come forth – left it for an hour in the glass; aromas showed lots of blackberry fruit, with hints of anise; ample fruit on the palate – initially reflecting some ripe tannins, but they settled back as the wine sat in the glass; powerful thrust of fruit, with a licorice edge – some hazelnut – blackberries; excellent structure with the frame holding the fruit; superb acidity in the background; finished beautifully. This is quite an outstanding wine with a long future. Another 4 or 5 years will add further complexity.

Light colour, a hint of bricking, Very mature nose, but on palate comes round with a subtle midpalate, slight astringency to tannin on finish. Wasn't really sure what to make of this (was tried blind). For me, not worth the price tag (£150)

Vertical tasting of Soldera Case Basse Brunello Riservas: Dark ruby colour - slightly hazy; focused raspberry aroma - some truffle - warm coffee and spice, but quite penetrating in the nostrils; on the palate the first reaction is the crisp acidity and tannins, but this levels out to reveal dark cherry and blackberry fruit; quite rich and concentrated; very full body; very long finish - primarily fruit driven.
I expected this wine to be more evolved at this stage, but there is considerable promise for this wine over the next 4 to 6 years.

Most tasters hate it - lots of violate and balsamic - but I loved it. Amazing with balsamic focaccia.

Drank this bottle with little time to let it breath. Notwithstanding that it was a smooth well balanced Brunello and probably at or near its peak

Fabulous -- tannin fully integrated, like drinking velvet.
