Dark deep red color. Vanilla, Tomato-paste, Chicken Tikka Masala and other indian spices, lots of cherry in the palate with some more chiken tikka, very warm wine. Opened up a lot with some air and got better and better. It even got the cola-candy that I love so much and get quite often in Grange... This wine is absolutely stunning and a great value too!

Brilliantly focused shiraz, intense but not at all heavy, vibrant acidity married with pure crushed blackberry and boysenberry fruit. Everyone at the table was quite impressed, from knowledgeable wine folks to random relatives.

TWATS IV (Baldi's Cave): Lighter nose of raspberries. Tart fruit big red fruit explosion, long finish, big in the mouth. Sim loved it. This one really opened up quickly, improving before we stripped away the covers. The fruit was huge, and the tannins have melted away, wow. WOTF.

NobleRottersSydney - Penfolds 96-98 +ring-ins (Alio's, Surry Hills): The 92 St Henri has always I think been regarded as a fairly short-term wine, and this example confirms the view, although it’s still a very acceptable effort. There’s plenty of development on the nose, although still a trace remains of jubey, confected fruit. The palate is semi-rich, but not at all heavy; indeed there’s a kind of transparency to the fruit flavours. Nearly medium-bodied, with soft dusty tannins, the shortish finish and one-dimensional lack of complexity betray the vintage origins. But the wine still works, largely because it’s not puffed up to be something it never was. Still, drink in the new few years for best effect.

Full cherry fruit with plenty of oak and smooth integrated tanins.
24 hr later, this wine really settled down. The fruit and oak flavors tasted more integrated with more complexity. It was much more enjoyable the second night. I thought this was past it's prime on the first night. Now I think it has many years left.

Dripstone Cliffs - May 2005; 5/13/2005-5/27/2005 (Darwin NT, Australia): While it is just past its peak period, was still very good. Dark brick red colour, good nose really opened up after letting breath. Good complex flavour, blackcurrent and fruit, little spice or pepper but a slight smoky smell when first opened. Tannins were not overpowering and not to grippy. It had a good length on the palette and a strong finish.

Night Two of Two Big Nights in Sydney (Beachside in Bondi): Fading from what I imagine it was at peak, but still a tremendously pleasurable, mature example, with dusty tannins, restrained blue fruit and a bit of petrol.

Closed at first. After 30 min, it came together and was very enjoyable. Full fruit of berries with good structure and tannins.

After a good decanting period this wine was brick red in colour and bright. Good length, well rounded with smooth tannins.
