Heater week; 3/26/2023-4/3/2023 (Chicago, IL): A wine from the (imagined) old era of Roulot before the reduction and high-tension acidity wines of now. This is of a much more old-school style, rounded and somewhat fat, with a meyer lemon note throughout. There seems to be a fair bit of botrytis as well, giving this a slight mushroom note. I really do like this more restrained and subdued style of Roulot, even though I'm a big fan of the current wines as well.

Those who know Roulot expect great things from these village lieu-dit wines...and this bottle met/exceeded those expectations. Sensational wine in a really great place right now. Still has the electricity - the acid, the dry mineral, the salinity and bright lemon citrus. But this one has started to mature just a wee bit...as it should for a 14-year-old "village" wine. The development was positive in the sense that it gave this wine a hint of fatness/richness that young Roulot wines tend not to show - yet this bottle still had all that glorious crisp Roulot-ness also. For me, this is utterly fabulous to drink right now. Puts many a 1er Cru Meursault from other producers to shame.

The palate is very pure, crystalline. First there is a lemon zest, enhanced by a touch of wood, all enveloped by a hint of honey. It is not fat like a Meursault can be, but we can distinguish the terroir all the same, because the wine coats the tongue in a very delicate way. The mineral character dominates a perfectly coherent and integrated whole with a very fine acidity which gives a nice energy. Saline finish over a correct length.
Very beautiful, impressive for a “simple” village which just lacks a finish and a more imposing length.

I tasted this 5 years ago, and it was then dominated by oak. Now, it has turned into a well assembled, nutty and full bodied Meursault. Lacks the elegance of a Premier Cru, maybe. (A Sauzet Puligny Perrieres 2008 was tasted together with it and showed more class). Very impressive anyway for a village.

Fleshy, almost honeyed, citrus fruit, and a zesty minerality. This has put on some weight over the years, with full scale flavors kept lively with ripe acidity and a crisp texture. Saline finish.

Tasted blind in a flight of 5 Meursaults from 08 and 09. Citrusy grapefruit aromas on the nose. Taut, medium acid linear palate showing good fruit intensity coupled to a dry finish. My second place wine, groups third place wine. I guessed correctly that this was the Roulot Luchets.

A bit of reduction first that quickly dissapears. Yellow fruit, a little citrus, some oak. Really good balance. Not a big wine by any means but very delicious. Drinking very well.

Beautiful. Touch bigger then the 08 Raveneau Butteaux with almost as much acidity. Really pure Meursault profile with citrus, minerals, floral and hints of orchard fruit. Focused and detailed. A great villages wine. Drink or hold. Excellent. 90+

My first Roulot. Lots of honey, rich stone fruit, but backed by nice lemon acidity. Very balanced even at this stage. Delicious. Just downright delicious.

An amazing bottle from a very rarely seen spot, incredible lemon and wet stone layers of complexity. Similar to tillet with more balance and complexity.

Lunch with JM Roulot and JM Fourrier. White flower aromas. More linear than Coche. Also noticeably more acidic and lighter.

Sweet, floral and bright. Straightforward. Picked this out as Côte de Beaune rather easily.

Citrus and butter aromas, in addition to abundant amounts of oak. Lovely mouth feeling, with great intensity. Also some tannins.

Still very young and closed but brooding power and riesling like acidity and refreshment on the end of a firm palette.

The Verticals at La Paulee de San Francisco (Westin St. Francis - San Francisco CA): Subdued aromas of Meyer lemon with faint floral hints. Apple and lemon on palate show ripe fruit, good acidity and minerality, but not even close to the level of its wonderful 2007 counterpart.
