This bottle, although elegant and packed with sweet tropical fruits, seems on the verge of premature oxidation. Still drinkable with great pleasure, it lacked a little freshness. Saline mineral notes on the palate mingle with the fruit to provide complexity. Subtle nose, and a little short on the finish. Drink up.

Beautiful nose of judicious oak, pear, and apple. In the mouth, beautifully balanced and very pure. Layered on the palate, with fruit that rolls across your tongue nicely and is perked up by strong but gentle acidity. Lovely stuff, particularly on the finish. A-

Limestone minerals in the bouquet as well as the taste. White fruits, green apple, vanilla and some pineapple. Just a bit fat, but overall refined and elegant with a good concentration and length.

More subtle than the les Combettes and the les Perriers. A wonderful expression of chardonnay. Excellent balance and well integrated oak. In a word, elegant.

Popped, breathed in bottle 90 minutes, followed over next two hours. Consistent with previous notes. This needs lots of air for the fruit to emerge but when it opens up, it is lovely. Beeswax, green apple, citrus, a touch of seashell.

I opened this up as my white for the burg vs. CA dinner we held this past Saturday night, with today being Wednesday night. The last few ounces sat in the fridge since that time, that portion forming this note. This wine is held up just fine over the 4 nights since. I have a fond connection to this site, as the 07 Sauzet version is excellent, I still own several of that wine and it's high class, a really fine bottle of Puligny. This Carillon too is quite good, almost begs for a side by side with the 08 Sauzet, although this is my last 08 Carillon CC so that match will have to wait for another time. As for this Carillon, it's really very nice. There is a kiss of toasted oak but it's really not all that much in my view. Around that note is plenty of mineral, dried pear, lime, green apple and wet stone. The palate weight is squarely medium, enough lithe that it's refreshing. Just a beautiful bottle of Puligny, and like Combettes it adds another data point as to why Puligny and chardonnay done right out of the CdB can just outclass the stuff from CA.

This is probably my favorite bottle of wine of the year and is out-punching a lot of much more expensive wines. Nose is quite strong with lemongrass and pear. The palate is relatively rich, but very elegant and has the perfect weight. Delicate palate with surprising richness on the finish. Just a beautiful bottle.

Very nice wine with a great structure and fruit. I had it on Le Montrachet when having lunch there. It is still a bit young but drinking beautifully already.

Very mineral with some ripe tropical and stone fruits including lemon, apple with hint of spice, persistent and lingerish acidity. It is quite buttery and oaky, and with a rather sharp and steely acidity. Complex, layer and mineral finish with the ever existing high acidity setting the tones throughout. I am not particularly fond of this as I find the complex fruity character did not complement with the attacking acid that well - a disjointed overall feeling. I believe with more ageing, the elements in this wine might integrated with each other?

2011 Simple Series X: Mark in town (Asia Grand @ Odeon Tower): Alcohol :: 13.5% Light golden with light green hue. Very aromatic, fresh and focus with lots of coldness, ginger spice, pepper, mineral with a mixture of lemon lime in the core. The intense palate echoed to the nose: crisp entry that us refreshing that move on with rich creamy mouth feel that is highly focus with great tension. The juicy, mineral infused medium length finish is elegance and lingered with touch of lime and spice. Another 5yrs will be better and this shall merit a Outstanding if this gained better depth in the bottle. Delicious. 88-89+

2011 Simple Series VIII: Dinner with Mark Roberson of Goedhuis (again) (Asia Grand, Odeon Towers): What a great start to the night. The last time I encountered this wine was when it was still undergoing malolactic fermentation in Domaine Carillon's cellars back in 2009. It is a great testimony both the the Domaine's abilities as well as the wine's ability to transmit terroir that we finally (after a few guesses) narrowed this down correctly to a Carillon Champ Canet, and what a wonderful wine it was too - I remember thinking this was everything a top drawer 1er Cru should be. No pretensions at Grand Cru weight or depth, but just about as good as you would expect from a Puligny 1er. I must say that it was surprisingly forward for a 2008 though. Beautifully minerally on the nose, it started with lovely flint and granite scents floating around sweet appley notes ringed by a halo of daisy flowers. Very pretty. The palate was wonderfully drinkable too. Fresh, bright, almost zippy, yet the balance here was pitch perfect - never strident or tart, the acid played a perfect counterpoint to pure apple fruit notes touched with a bit of grapefruit and another ring of flowers. Plenty of depth, lots of presence, yet ever so elegant in typical Carillon style. The wine had a beautiful finish, stretching away in a classy slide of minerality. So defined, so focused, yet wonderfully drinkable. I loved this.

Seems rather ripe but balanced with good acidity. Definitely a Puligny from the nose and a 1er cru at that from the mineral-infused palate and stuffing. Very citrusy flavors with clean and well-textured mouth-feel. Would be even better to mellow this with age. Excellent example of the appellation.

From a bottle brought on the fly, got to love impulse burgundy buying. An enticing and thoroughly enjoyable wine right through to the last gulp, its deliciousness however detracts nothing from the seriousness of the quality. Subtle oak influence, quite sophisticated and classic with a really nice hint of something like preserved lemon. Mouthwatering acid and nice, medium concentration with a very distinct pink grapefruit character. Lengthy and fine finish that has you tilting your head back for another mouthful before you know it.

A very pale yellow core, with a watery rim. No more than medium intense on the nose, this fine 1er Cru initially offers up soft yellow fruits, refined quinine minerality and some fennel bulb. It’s medium-bodied and while it has most definitely pronounced acidity, this wine is a departure from the trend of the night. It’s built on finesse and subtlety and the acidity is so well-buffered that it does not show until the finish. Medium intense flavours of yellow grapefruit and a prickly mineral spine make the mouth tingle, which effect is smoothed over by the caressing effect of its suave texture. Here is again that subtle impression of purity, which makes these so eminently drinkable in most vintages and at any given time in their life span. The finish holds on to all that good stuff for half a minute at least, so I have to give 90 points to this pretty infant of a wine, with potential for up to 3 points if it adds complexity, precision and flavour intensity. Tasting this wine makes the recent breaking up of the domaine in two tiny parts over trivial nonsense all the more gut-wrenching......TN Mike de Lange

Louis Carillon's Puligny-Montrachets (Vin, Vino, Wine): Dust, Petrol, green peppers and animal aromas on the nose. Thicker body than the 2005, more acid. This does not have the corn or wintergreen flavors I detected in the 2005. Aftyer a while the petrol became more notable. A very different wine than the older 2005, not better or worst, just different.
