I think this is a better wine now than upon release even though it may be a bit past the peak. Light rim of violet. Nose is tepid at first, but some red and blue fruit can be coaxed out with a little effort. Palate is well balanced. Fruit is supported by classic cab secondary flavors of cigar box, wet forest, and cedar. Not big and flashy, but solid and enjoyable to drink. I would drink now. Tannins and acidity are fine, but not robust at this point.

Indifferently stored (horizontal in an ordinary basement, but without stable temp control). Still beautiful color, no noticeable bricking. It's past its prime, sadly. Still drinkable. Not as good as my previous bottle from 14 months ago. One bottle remaining; it's time to drink it. Decanted for an hour and drank over two more hours; never improved from the time I opened it.

The wine looks inky colored. The legs are slow. There is moderate sediment in the bottle. It smells like black currant (cassis). The body is medium/full. The wine has round texture. The wine finishes medium. The storage of this wine spent 9 years at Jordan Winery and 2 years in private wine locker.

We typically love Jordan, but I think this was past it's drinking window. It wasn't bad but the fruity flavors and aroma were invisible to the point of tasting watered down. Lots of sediment that easily filtered out. Color was definitely on the browner side with a clear rim. I will drink my 2009 soon in hopes to catch it while still at its peak.

Decanted 1 hour. Upon decanting dark ruby color w/heavy cherries on the nose. Very good legs that stayed consistent throughout the bottle. Initial mildly strong tannic nose. Crimson color on initial pour. Opened to pronounced cherries with mild acidity. I was surprised by the acidity in an aged Cab. Full finish w/balanced tannins over the course of the bottle. Full fruit profile of dark fruit. Drink now.

NorCal Cabernet Sauvignon Blind Tasting (My Home): Another solid effort by Jordan. After 4 hour decant. This is drinking nicely now, but easily has another 3-4 years in its drinking window. Nose is weak and not very enticing. Mostly nail polish with some black cherry and a touch hot. The acidity is high, the tannins are partially resolved and medium-high with a very refined, light, not quite silky texture. The palate is fruit-forward with blackberry and black cherry. The mid-palate is faint, but detectable with tobacco and graphite, leading to a medium-long chocolate finish. I enjoyed this feminine counterpart to the Napa masculine Cabernet continuum. A quality cab with a lighter, softer touch.

First impression was pepper followed by black currant. This wine has maybe another two years. Fruit still there, but not sure for how long if planning on going over 10 years.
I will say that the wine is mediocre for the price. It's a shame that Jordan, "sold out to the man". I hear the stories of old Jordan bottles going twenty years and being highly focused on quality. Several colleagues of mine visited Napa in the 80s and bought Jordan consistently. Eventually a legacy will wear off leaving only the actual quality of the wine to keep it competitive. If any of the wineries follow Cellar Tracker remember that the drinkers know what is exceptional and what is not. That is the way to build a long term following.

I find Jordan a good bet when at a restaurant and can't find something I trust on the menu for the price (and the wine staff is not helpful). Jordan is always good. A good wine, but I struggle to find anything more. It starts with a nice fruity nose, but is a bit restrained or austere on the palate as if it's holding back, and follows with a not so pleasant taste of overripe fruit. The finish is a bit raw but lingers in a good way.

First had this 6 months ago and wasn't impressed. Thought is was tart and too cranberyrish. Now I thought it was very different. More rounded and smoother without that harsh acidity. Jen had it open for 1/2 hour and vinturied it. Maybe made the difference.

When she saw my '06 Jordan, my extremely competitive mother-in-law produced a '96 Ch. Meyney. Meanwhile, my father-in-law incinerated the NY strip steaks. The Meyney showed nicely, although it was thinning and signaling an end-of-life experience. The Jordan was rich and powerful - a good match for the carbonized beef - and probably could have used some decanting, but it's not a CA bomber (which is why I like it), and is a complex and smartly made wine that will be showing even better in a couple years. My mother-in-law, of course, hated every drop of it.
Very uninteresting wine. This vintage seems a little more high toned, but still thin and one dimensional as before. Fake, candied fruit on the nose, not much on the palate. Finish is non-existent. Score reflects price/quality disparity.

Nose: Strong loamy qualities show with some oak. Palate: Mineral presense with some red fruit, but the tannins and acid are most prevalent and the wine is thin. This wine appears to be less about fruit than secondary qualities. With that said it is an overrated wine (as I feel Jordan has always been). If I tasted blind I would say about $25 retail. As we know it is about twice that or more, and thus a poor QPR. Got this bottle free to try otherwise I would feel ripped off at anything near retail (aprox $50). Too many other far better values out there as this wine shares the same legacy as Silver Oak; a name brand and only a name brand....don't be fooled. Would score lower (85 or less) if not for the interesting loamy minerality on the nose.

Opened for 9 hours but not decanted. Dense and violet in color. Coffee, leather, cassis, vanilla on the nose- maybe a little currant peeking through. Blackcurrant, black cherry, coffee, leather, black olive, black tea notes on the palate. Medium bodied, but good feel and structure. Fine grainy tannins with nice grip. Dark fruits and tea notes close the wine- decent length. Nicely balanced between fruit and savory notes. In a good place.

A good showing by Jordan but complexity and body is a bit light. Good fruit on the front but does not carry through to finish which I though was thin. High 80s at best and does not have the structure in my opinion to improve a ton from here. -S

Deep ruby. Specked with black and red currants, cherries, earth, toffee, and cedar. The palate toggles between power and finesse, showing a smooth texture, round tannins that complement bright fruit, and a pepper note on the finish.

I had the pleasure of doing a vertical tasting of Jordan Cabernets spanning the vintages from 2000 to 2006. I am going to leave a review for each vintage and in an attempt to avoid redundancy I will place this and the following paragraph at the beginning of each review with my overall impression of all the wines, followed by another paragraph or two of the notes I took which were specific to that vintage. Overall the Jordan Cabernets are very understated, subtle efforts modeled after left bank Bordeaux. Not one of them came off as "fruity." Instead, Jordan is clearly attempting to make wines which highlight the terroir of their grapes. All of them give you intense minerality and earthy notes - often dry dusty earth much like the deep summer months of the Alexander Valley. The degree to which I felt like the land was speaking through their wines was remarkable. Even the tannins were what I would call "dusty" meaning they had a lightly drying nature and a very fine grit - almost powdery. These are wines of the utmost finesse and refinement. Almost to the point where I could see someone expecting a big California-style Cab might be disappointed. The subtlety might be lost on the casual drinker. But people who are looking for an authentic Bordeaux style wine will be delighted. In addition, all of them showed great aging potential with a near-ideal balance of acidity and tannin. The further we went back in vintage the better it got and I could see any of these wines peaking 15 years or possibly more after their vintage. The 2006 vintage featured understated red cherry and mineral notes. Also a nice touch of sweet vanilla oak.

The first of two 2006 bottles we had on Christmas day, both before and during dinner. This one was very fruity, not complex... tasted very young, and likely not-yet ready to be opened. Not bad, mind you, but certainly not something I expected from a bottle of this price range. (The second and third bottles were much better though... a 2006 and a 2003.)

Second of two 2006 bottles drank before & with Christmas dinner. Very different from the first bottle opened a few hours prior... while that one was very fruity, this had more tannins, was more complex and just plain more smooth. We're noticing a pretty wide variation between bottles of Jordan, even of the same years.

Underwhelmed. Decanted for 90 minutes. Nice berry fruit and smooth tannins but nothing too special. Not very complex and a little expensive for what you get in my opinion. It is however representative of Alexander Valley Cab as someone else pointed out in their review. In past I have liked Jordan better (90 pts), perhaps when it has a little more age or is from a better vintage, 99, 01.

Surprisingly bland. Not a lot of nose, straightforward cassis. Decent intensity, elegant cherry and cassis over some earthy notes. Kind of blah. Balance is good -- medium weight, moderate acidity, lacking a bit of tannin. Finish is average-length.

Saturdays at One - Volume 28: Tasted blind. Garnet color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of red berries and red cherries with light hints of red licorice and aspirin. Flavors of red berries and red cherries. Bright acidity, medium tannins and body. Drink over the short term, perhaps the medium term. My guess was this is the 2001 Ripanera Terra di Ripanera Red Wine. I flipped flopped this with the 2006 Jordon but you read my note and tell me what wine I was tasting.

Lovely bottle, as most Jordan Cab's are. Will be better in a few years if you are willing to give it time to improve with age.
