drunk alongside the 2010 - neither are ready to drink but it certainly is the more mature of the two - beautifully balanced wine that shows the quality of the vintage - leave

Dark berry fruit, cedar, tobacco and a hint of chocolate. Drinking well now with LOTS of air...2+ hours minimum. Obviously will cellar for a long time to come.

I have many bottles of this in year 2015, 2016 and 2017. It doesn't seem to evolve a bit during these years.
On the nose, it gives generous notes of perfumed blackcurrant, blueberries, smoke, cedar, tobacco.
On the palate, it gives lots of jammy cherry notes, followed by complex tertiary notes and a slightly savoury edge, complimented by good acid level medium(+) body. Finish is satisfyingly long.
Although the tannins are still high and young, the wine is quite enjoyable.

Intense, tannic, young. Fruit appears after two full hours in a decanter. It could have used 3 hours. I may need to invest in a case. Very impressed with this. Love this wine. I wish I had a time machine to go ahead and see how it develops. I want this wine in my life.

This is one of those '09s that are definitely far from ready to drink. Give this another seven years at least. I should have known as it's from the von Niepperg camp, which tend to produce big, tannic wines. This is built for ageing. It's a virtual impenetrable brick upon opening, but it does ease up after about two hours decanting and starts to show some character and sweetness. This is a wine that wins more on power vs. finesse and elegance. It's pretty great stuff, though probably fair for the price, and there are likely better buys from this vintage (Fleur Cardinale, for example).

Drank it way too early, should have waited the 7 to 12 years to drink it respectfully, but was too impatient. (Popped and poured , even) Beautiful red and blue fruits on the nose and palate, no hint of plumminess. strong to medium body. Short finish due to substantial but soft tannins. Balanced acidity present. Darn, should have waited. Would be great with steak or lamb.

Deep in color, the perfume is filled with licorice, coffee, blackberry, blueberries and smoke. Round and supple in texture, the wine finishes with sweet, jammy black cherries.

2009 Clos L’Oratorie is a blend of 90% merlot, 5% cabernet franc, and 5% cabernet sauvignon. Owner Stephan Neipperg works the vineyards with a biodynamic approach. No herbicides, pesticides, or insecticides allowed. Yields were only 28 hls per ha, in part because of the May hailstorm. Smoke, licorice, coffee, and blackberry scents are coupled with supple textures in the mouth. The wine finishes with dark cherries and blackberry jam. 90-92

I think this needs even more time - not a lot of change since the last bottle a couple of years ago

A bit closed day 1. More open day 2. Smooth. Drinking well now but also some tannins on the finish so could probably go longer.

A bit awkward when first opened. Lovely and harmonious after 90 minutes. Paired with sweetbreads and chanterelles.

Fabulous wine. Full-bodied with tannins that are starting to subside.

Drinking really well now. Big but light on its feet, and smooth tannins, no typical young Bordeaux burlap on the tongue.

Big, dark, powerful but not brooding. Alive with dark fruits and hint of chocolate. Delicious.
