Right out of the gates, you get expressive aromas of cassis, violets, and some baking spices. This wine is full bodied and silky smooth at this stage in its development, with sweet ripe tannins bringing it all home. Impressive effort, decidedly very new world in style.

A great showing. The tannin has receded and the currant fruit base underneath came across as borderline sweet (served next to a Bordeaux anyway) while also showing olfactory complexity of middle age. Should be peaking over the next few years.

Restrained red fruit and mineral notes on the nose. Palate is light and lithe at frist then showing a really beautiful complexity as it develops first spice then fruit and finally showing tannins. Finishes sharp with a heavy mineral note and lingers a good 20 seconds.

While quite good, it is not showing as nicely as either Pedestal or Pirouette from the same vintage. They are just another level up. Still quite good though. Perhaps it is now on the down side of the aging apex.

WineFest in Toronto (Mike Grammer); 7/10/2016-7/12/2016 (Mike Grammer's (parents home) in Toronto): After reading some other reviews, I am going to assume this was not a proper bottle. Everyone at the table seemed to be dissing this wine. It is thin, not much fruit, hollow mid palate, clipped finish. I think it had been opened a long time, so i doubt it was tca at a low level (usually that presents itself). Perhaps it just shut down hard? Not sure what was going on. Oh well.

This is bottle is still far from mature and very tight. I recommend decanting for 2-3+ hours before drinking. WHen I first opened it, you could tell from the nose that it was still very tight and needed a lot of time to open. Afterwards the nose finally started to show some decent fragrance. The mid-palate had some nice fruit but not thing spectacular. The finish was very short. I recommend holding off on opening this wine for a couple more years if possible. Otherwise, definitely decant it.

Relatively unyielding at the pop. Initially, fairly tight, with a good dose of acidity that isn't yet folded into the body of the wine. Pushed through a Vinturi into a decanter and let it sit for 30 minutes.
With some air, this does improve significantly, becoming more aromatic and fuller bodied on the palate, with acidity retreating to more of a background role.
Overall, this reminds me quite a bit of a young Dunn. I'd like to think that this will continue to evolve / improve with additional time in the bottle. I'd probably decant for 2 hours for current drinking.

An excellent Columbia cab with a smooth body and nice finish. A really impressive effort by Mr. Dunn and Mr Shoup. I believe this is a blend of all Cab but almost has a Bordeaux like quality in that it is so smooth for 100% Cab. Dark purple with a nice perfume on the nose of crushed wet rocks, forest floor, and spice. On the palate, it had forest floor, spice box, pencil lead, and nice black cherry, black currant and creme de cassis. A nice overall structure and pleasant elongated finish. Highly recommended and glad I have five more to enjoy.

My three-day Presidents Day weekend was pretty much spent eating a steak so obscenely large it would make Larry Flynt blush. The son-of-a-bitch weighed over 5 pounds and cost $100, but went down easier than Lindsay Lohan for cocaine money
It was a dry-aged tomahawk ribeye and the meat I trimmed off the handle got ground up and yielded six of the tastiest hamburgers I ever had (actually, two of them are still in my refrigerator). And the steak was thrown onto a cast iron griddle, went in the oven until medium rare, and finished back on the griddle with garlic, butter and fresh thyme. If I had a time machine, I'd like to take that steak with me and dance with it on Soul Train to Michael Jackson's "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough." What happens after that is between a consenting adult and his Tomahawk Ribeye.
Don't judge me! I'm a tax payer and a licensed driver!
I'd like to say I chose the wine because I thought its bright Washington State fruit would carry the beets and turnips I roasted with the steak (which it marvelously did), but really, I just grabbed the first Cabernet I wasn't saving for a special occasion. As it turns out, it's dang tasty. Fruit forward and savory at the same time. Cherries, firm tannins and fresh herbs on the finish that carry the thyme-butter all the way through. It was my last bottle, so I can't share any with you when you invite me over for dinner, but could I interest you in a Syrah so tasty it'll make you excuse yourself to the back yard to contemplate the direction of your life?

Big nose - earthy, leather. Tannins fully integrated delivering a supple velvet like palette of dark fruit followed by leather, spices and the slightest hint of eucalyptus. There is a very long finish with some chocolate at the end. This bottle received slow oxidation for about 4 hours. Initially there was a slightly hot finish but that disappeared after about 20 minutes in the glass. Finished the last of the bottle 4 hours after opening and everything really came together nicely by that point. Paired with a charcoaled Delmonico, the wine held up well and enhanced the steak. Sipping into the evening, the wine continued to evolve into something more. Supple and silky, the wine showed a lot of complexity and continued to evolve over the evening. Well done !

The color is garnet with violet notes and brilliant but opaque. The smells are currants, pencil, dark cherries, and sweet vanilla spices. The tastes are currants, cherries, cedar, sweet spice, and briary herbs. The tannins are velvety and furring and the acidity is nice and this wine has a lengthy finish.

No detailed notes. Pop/pour. A mistake. Agree with "Silton" re: hold recommendation. Seems balanced to me, definitely not a fruit bomb. Pleasant, but relatively unyielding. Tight. For my palate, this needs a fair amount of time to show it's true colors. 5+ years? This is old school, and for me needs some significant time to mellow/integrate. 2018+.

Tanzer describes this wine in part by writing "Fat, ripe and silky... but showing little in the way of easy sweetness." I'd say this might have closed down a bit since then; definitely no easy sweetness and plenty of structure here, although drinkable and showing its class. HOLD. 91++

The wine is a dark red color, verging onto purple. The very nice nose has cassis, minerals, white pepper, licorice, violets, sun baked earth, dried herbs, red raspberries, baking spices, and some dark bittersweet chocolate, and a touch of cedar. This has medium body, fairly solid tannins, and very good acidity. The palate has a nice fruit component up front with a load of savory elements coning in on the back end adding depth and complexity. The finish is fairly long with some sweet fruit joined by dried herbs, dark chocolate, and a touch of spicy oak. This is a very classy wine that would cost twice this price if it had a Napa Valley appellation in its name. This is a touch young, but tastes great none the less.

@ Snake River Grill with pork shank. Terrific wine. Nice deep young color and very elegant nose of fruit and herbs/spices. On the palate it was wonderfully balanced with typical cab flavors. The wine lingered on the finish. Overall very good and restrained as i find with many washington cabs.

100% cabernet sauvignon 14.2% alc. Vibrant purple in colour, not inky or thick. Nice sensual dark berry aromas, graphite, toast, spices. Soft aromas from the glass, not heavy, ..... fresh and vibrant. Medium weight , medium acidity. Blackberry, cassis and black cherry fruit flavours dominate. Nice seam of minerality/herbalness. Some baking spices (cloves and nutmeg) and chocolate on the mid palate to the finish. Nice earthy/loamy component. Good length to the finish. Only complaint would be maybe a bit thin on the mid palate. I was expecting a bit more heft to the wine but got more subtlety and elegance , which is fine. Drying subtle and smooth tannins. All in all very nicely balanced, an excellent wine.

Firm, chewy and distinctive for its smoky and dried tomato accents around a core of blackberry, black cherry and bay leaf flavors, lingering expressively on the deftly balanced finish.

Decanted for three hours. Almost opaque with a sanguine rim. Cassis, lava rock, hot chocolate, blackberry and white flowers. Closed and she really needs six hours to show her true colours. Long and echoing, there's fine layers as well. Tannins of grip and succulence - I can really see how time will treat this statuesque Columbia-Valley-Beauty well - especially when the mid-palate gushes so nicely. A heady Cabernet. Drink 2015 - 2028.

Freeload tour in Washington (Bellevue/Woodinville): Winemaker is Randy Dunn. TN: Fragrant on the nose, Initially taste soapy, but then chocolate blows up and midpalate coating, tannic finish. Some people commented it was too dry. I suspect this needs minimum 10-15 years just like any other Dunn Cabernets. 91++

For those of you that follow my tasting notes regularly, you know that I am a big fan of Long Shadows wine. It's an interesting concept to bring so many great winemakers together under one umbrella, even if it's an idea limited to those who have enough money to pull it off, as does Allen Shoup, the founder. This Pedestal is not my favorite Long Shadows wine (those would be Chester Kidder and Pedestal), but it holds its own, no question. Incredibly smooth and silky, well balanced and a finish that lingers for a while. Red fruit (mostly cherry and plum), chocolate and a hint of Christmas spice, this is a good, easy drinker and a great introduction to the Long Shadows line.

Initially, very open. Surprisingly so. Shuts down a bit with air. I think this will be one of my favorite "Feather" bottlings.
On the nose, a mix of red and blue fruit, a bit of smoke, cassis and brown sugar. On the palate, rich but nicely balanced, with good acidic/tannic structural components. If opening now, guzzle it in the first 15 minutes when it's showing its best. Otherwise (and more prudently) put it away for 5 years and see what develops. 93-95 points for me based on what I experienced early on, and the potential this seems to have.

Decanted for about 4 hours. Fruit forward, dark fruits, currents with touch of oak and herbs. Nice balance, good structure medium to thin body with light tannins. This one is probably just entering the drinking window may still improve a bit over the next few years but very drinkable now.

100% cabernet sauvignon
14.2% alc.

Parker also gives it a 93, Tanzer a 92+

Decanted for three hours. Almost opaque with a sanguine rim. Cassis, lava rock, hot chocolate, blackberry and white flowers. Closed and she really needs six hours to show her true colours. Long and echoing, there's fine layers as well. Tannins of grip and succulence - I can really see how time will treat this statuesque Columbia-Valley-Beauty well - especially when the mid-palate gushes so nicely. A heady Cabernet. Drink 2015 - 2028.

Randy dunn as a flying winemaker? So young yet drank wonderfully out of bottle. Had plenty of bones to age gracefully for another 20years. Rhone like on the nose, balanced for 14.5%abv. I would actually buy this.

Very stylish and approachable with loads of red and black fruit. High aromatics and a lingering finish add depth. Only 14.2 abv, nice. Lets bring this down to 13.5 or less. Not much as complexities go but solid.

Gorgeous nose at first, but that seemed to really diminish as it breathed. Not sure if that is a product of youth or what, but don't delay on this wine once you crack it. Other than that, drinks nice and has nice mineral characteristics throughout.
