Opened up after 30-45 minutes. Dark. Ripe darker fruit though red fruit comes out a bit on palate. More intense than the Chambolle villages that I have tasted, more muscular. But, there is a silkiness and textural elegance and balance that cannot be denied. I continue to be impressed by Roumier wines though my enthusiasm cannot help but be tempered by the eye watering prices.
2nd day after standing half full corked in a cool location. Seems more open and detailed. Red fruit comes through more. Expands more on the palate and maybe even a little more length on finish. It has more to give.

Beautiful showing today. Popped and poured in a Zalto Universal, the wine presents especially darkly in the glass, profile showing rich blackberry fruits and some iron ore. Air helped the wine greatly and I was pleased to see that there was no roasted or overripe prune/fig notes, but rather, hints of coffee and dark cocoa that made it especially interesting and masculine. Dense and rich, with balanced acidity, what a treat to taste this wine, which will certainly age well for many years.

I've been buying Roumier some and haven't drank much so I figured I better try a bottle to make sure I'm getting something I like. Nothing to worry about! This bottle was killer. The nose was explosive with dark raspberry, almost coulis like, earthy/iron notes, floral and just a hint of spice. The palate is fabulous; great depth and concentration, but also great freshness and nothing that seems overripe at all. Still seems young to me, but was delicious. Drinking great now or in 10 years.

There is a reason people spend a lot of money for these wines. The best advice I can give is open a good 2 or 3 hours before serving and give it a decant. The transformation is real. Initially tight and a bit green, no more. Beautiful ruby red. The nose is a star here: a balanced sauce of fruit, earth and stones. Damn it’s special. The palate is loaded, a bit grainy and full of hidden extract. Not pretty, it’s muscular. I don’t know if it’s worth the money, but I really like it. Drink over the next 10 to 15 years. (93)

Noe off.

Really took six full hours to display the classic Roumier etherealness on the nose, but damn it really was ethereal. Less purple fruit/heavy than Chambolles, more accessible today, some rocky MSD notes, insanely perfumed. Palate slightly thin and less ripe than expected, also missing the acidity of the Chambolle cuvees. 94 nose 92 palate, 93-94

bottle decanted ~4 hrs. ripen red and purple fruits, creamy, intense, earth. It became more wild and Meroy style after 1-2 more hrs. Tanning is rustic, and acidity is not high enough to give it more power.

PnP, nose opens up in plummy, fruit forward jammy strawberry style, with hints of minerality and a chalk whiff. In the mouth its silky, jammy 2009 vibe but still sophisticated and dry, then the layers of fruit keeps hitting you, with air the wine literally explodes with deep pinot fruit over and over again Exeptional. Will wait 2-4 years for next contact.

Ruby. Zippy nose of blue fruit and rose that developed complex soil and menthol tones with time. Lively acidity, really vibrant for the vintage, the 2009s are growing on me.

The 2009 Roumier Morey St Denis 1er Clos de la Bussiere is the richest and most muscular wine of the flight, offering Grand Cru weight and dense fruits, though tannins needs to be tamed with more cellaring. Tasted blind and guessed it was a Gevrey Chambertin Grand Cru, even though it was my bottle (great thing about double blind tasting!). Masculine style with layers of fruits and structure (tannins reminds me of 1999, but with much more fruit concentration). Keep for another few years before drinking. (91/100)

Potpourri of Wines from an Autumn Trip to France; 10/9/2018-10/24/2018 (Paris, Lyon, Beaune, Reims): Medium ruby central 90%. Once again, it roared out of the bottle with a sweet kirsch intensity, but if one waits an hour or so, there is camphor and mint as well. Ripe, sappy, medium plus weight, but patience, there is a goodly amount of soil and more than enough acidity to keep it lively. The tannins are also ripe but ready to assert themselves. I suspect that this one has pulled the wool over our eyes because of its stunning depth of fruit. It is on the cusp of burning off its substantial baby fat, and once it does, it will probably go into a shell for a decade or more before emerging as a fantastic mature wine. Fruit haters beware; you will find this much too vulgar and fleshy at this point.
Ah yes, the second night gives a better picture of where this is going. Ripe, medicinal black cherry could only come from a warm vintage, but the fruit/soil balance now approaches 50/50 and makes it more recognizable as a Morey St. Denis. What power and depth!

Spontaneous Mini-Paulée-Roumier, Rousseau, Raveneau... (Burgundy): Tasted blind. Deep, youthful looking. Sappy, ripe, a bit sweaty, deep dark cherry fruit. Most people guessed Chateauneuf du Pape. Very young and not much complexity or soil at this point, but if you crave ripe fruit and somewhat heady stuff, this wine is for you.

Some Wines from a Spring Trip to France; 4/4/2015-4/11/2015 (Paris and Burgundy): Deep, even ruby robe. Explosive, forthcoming kirsch aromas. Full red fruited entry that is ripe and even a bit confected. Then followed by snappy acidity and a finish drenched with soil. Substantial tannins, but the strength of the fruit still lets the wine sing. A powerhouse which will improve for decades, but amazingly refined for Morey. Outstanding bottle.

Makes a compelling case that Bussiere is not really 1er terroir. There's plenty of pretty, airy ripe small berry fruit, but there's not much else here: you only find faint suggestions of musk or earth if you're really looking for it. Medium bodied, well-balanced, decent concentration, complete through the mid-palate, but it's all a bit simple and boring and it doesn't get any more interesting over the course of a couple of hours. This would be good quality for a village wine but it's disappointing for a 1er from a top producer in a good vintage.
Not much doing here. Decent cranberry fruit and pretty structured, but utterly lacking complexity or intensity. Maybe this is "asleep"...or maybe it's just a disappointment from this producer and vintage.

drank over three nights, best on night two, funny for an '09 but this felt largely shut down, nose was cherries and still some oak, palate was MSD spice / structure but in modest quantities, cherries lurking but not fruity and some savory notes… hoping with all these element lurking - but not singing - that this will be fantastic in ten years (esp since i have 5 more)

Yes, I know I opened this too soon, but I just couldn't help it. We carefully poured into a decanter. The aroma was amazing!!! Red fruits (raspberry), barnyard and plum. After an hour, we tried it out. OMG. I am a newbie in the Burgundy world, but not to pinot noir.....this is the prettiest pinot noir I've had to date. Lovely balance of fruit, spice and minerality. I didn't want my glass to end. *sigh* I will hold my other bottle for a few more years. I have a feeling I may become a bit obsessed with Burgundy.

If you have some dont open for a little while. Very primary but all the components are there. Perfume of violets, looks like any young wine from anywhere at this stage (high quality Pinot that is). With time however Burgundy seems to have the ability to be able to completely suppress what makes them truly unique and I suspect this wine will shine quite brightly if given five years plus. Only young but I'll go out on a limb and say this is the best Roumier Clos de la Bussiere I've had (94-95 points?). Time will tell.
Half bottle. We were blown away by the Roumier Bonnes Mares at La Paulee this morning, so could not resist ordering this off a restaurant list. Not a bad choice at all. Deep, even robe. Briary red fruit, then beautiful florality and herbs. Medium weight, tart but ample red fruit, discrete wood, soil and herbs. Quite drinkable now but with the tannic base and strong acidity to reassure you that it will be around for a good, long while. Very refined for a Morey.

While it is still clearly to soon to drink this wine, the ripe nature of the 2009 vintage certainly seems to help. The nose is very exotic, with scents of violets and daisy's. The palate is ripe - but not to ripe - with flavors of minerals, plums, raspberries, blackberries, cherries, iodine, licorice, and a bit of iron. The acidity is also fairly pronounced and the finish lasts for 15-20 seconds. A very nice Burgundy, but will clearly be better with at least another several years of bottle age.

Popped and aired in the glass for 45 minutes. Dark ruby color. Immediate, almost exotic nose of black and red plum, violets, fresh-cut hay, iodine, Ooloong tea. Viviacious on the palate with waves of exuberant black raspberry and sweet plum fruit, joined by licorice, earth, brambles, and iron notes. Freshly acidic and quite tannic. Long, echoing finish of red fruit and structured grip. Turned more rustic with extended time in the glass. Highly individual wine bursting with primary fruit right now and likely to age in a most interesting manner.

Opened and poured, this wine gave a wonderful showing for its aromatics and youthful fruit. The bouquet gives notes of black cherry, earth and spice. The wine shows ripe fruit on both the bouquet and palate but remains focused and elegant. The color is a dark ruby to almost purple. The medium (plus) bodied palate shows balance and length on the finish with a sufficient amount of acidity and tannins. This wine should benefit from 3 to 4 years of additional bottle age.

This is a fabolous La Bussiere. It has layers of flavors of black and red fruit like cherries and wild strawberry. Very ripe but fresh and elegant at the same time. Roumier is always making me happy and I would be surprised if there are many Morey 1er Cru´s better than this 2009. A lovely wine. I wish I had more.

Alcohol :: 13% Decanted for 2.5hrs. Medium ruby red with purplish hue. This is the best Bussiere I have had to date. Highly aromatic, perhaps a little bit more on the wild side, meatiness, black cherry liquor, blackcurrant, iron, star anise, chalky mineral and hint of stem, very ripe but with good freshness and focus. Full and expansive, while this has very ripe dark fruits, the acidity is ripe and lively which give it a good definition. Creamy, rounded texture accompany by very firm but ripe tannin and structured which resulted in a kinda robust, power character but still retain good sense of finesse that leads to the intensely long finish that is quite spicy. It was so giving in the middle of lunch, but slowly tighten up toward the end of the lunch as the tannin and oak become slightly more obvious but also provide even better grip. Give it another 5-7yrs and will certainly be sensational. Yet another terrific wine from Roumier. 92-93+

Red Burgundy tasting (Rotterdam, Netherlands): The second glass is a more intense ruby at the core, with a purple highlight indicating youth. The nose is also medium intense, but quite different. It is ripe and spherical in character, showing plummy & macerated black fruits and a fine thread of lifted (oak or stems?) spice. Medium bodied on the attack, the medium-plus tannins are substantial and more grippy on the mid-palate than with its sibling, but this wine has a little more sex-appeal regardless, because of its not quite pronouncedly intense, liquorice-infused black fruit flavours. The acidity –while at least medium-plus– doesn’t quite manage to impart the same elegance, but still gives good freshness for a 2009 and combined with the tannins packs a structured punch on the 20-25 second finish. Concluding, this Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru “Clos de la Bussière” 2009 is quite successful in the context of the vintage, deserves 90 points for this showing and will surely improve, once a minimum of 5 years in the cellar adds complexity and rounds out its structure........... Ripe aromas and flavours of blueberry and cherry. There are some violets and a little grated ginger to the aroma. Its midriff ripples with cherry stones and there are some meaty undertones. It is succulent and rich with good intensity and detail and should age for a very long time.

Cellar Tasting with Christophe Roumier (Chambolle Musigny): Barrel tasting at Domaine. Bit reductive at first. More black than red fruit with lots of tannic backbone. Dense fruit with lots of texture. I normally find the Bussiere to be more backward and rustic than the Roumier wines from Chambolle, which holds true for this barrel sample of 09 as well.

Black currant, mineral. Powerful concentrated flavour with rich velvet texture. Mouth coating black berries and mineral.

(at The Modern - NYC) Beautiful medium ruby. Fully fruited, mineral. Powerful but refined. This will be very good in 8 to 10 years. (92)

Very dark wine. Brooding with berries from Fangorn but it's hard to really get under the skin of this wine right now. It needs at least 5 more years

Alcohol :: 13%
Decanted for 2.5hrs.
