It served in our CNY dinner, decanted half a hour, dark ruby, shy nose at the begining but became better in one hours decanting, silky palate, firm structure, still very young.

2021 Bordeaux Tasting Trip; 7/12/2021-7/16/2021 (Bordeaux): A tasting in Bordeaux of 71 wines, some of the best I have ever had and others, umm, well were disappointing. If you read the Tasting story (and my grading history) I think it will do a much better job putting this in perspective.
Wonderful experience at Lafite with a 2006 Gran Vin and a 2009 Carruades de Lafite.
This was for sure a visit I was looking forward to and the 2009 Carruades is a beautiful representation of the 2009 vintage with the beginning of the secondary flavors beginning to shine through. Lots of wonderful life left in the beautiful wine, very enjoyable!

Upon opening there was overwhelming oak on the nose, but it disappeared rather quickly within 30-60 minutes.
Like every other 2009 Left Bank I have tried, 4 hours of decanting seems to be the magic number before the wine shows itself. The nose is more intriguing than the palate, red and blue berry aromas with a faint hint of minerality.
The amount of oak gives off quite a lot of vanilla flavors, a bit too much for my liking - but later in the evening when the nose is more red fruit/raspberry dominant the creaminess is more in balance with the acidity and tartness of the red fruit.
It's a pleasant wine no doubt, but not for that cost when you compare it with other wines in that price range.

Very balanced with lot's of red berries and liquorice. A nice fruit-forward wine that is easy to drink but comes across pretty nondescript given the heat of the vintage.

HDH annual Bordeaux tasting: Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Chicago, IL): My favourite of the Carruades flight. It's a massive, brash wine, with a lovely mix of red and black fruit and some nascent graphite and pencil shaving notes. Despite poor reputation of the vintage, this is surprisingly well-handled, and the ripeness never feels overdone at all; in fact there's some restraint here. Quite drinkable now, but with stuffing that will certainly last for a long time.

Medium-bodied, elegant, fresh, soft and forward, this energetic, polished, silky, floral and, spicy red berry dominated wine, with its tobacco nuances is in its prime time drinking window. The wine was made from a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc.

Decanted for 2 hours, drank over the following 3 hours. Probably the best left bank 2009 I have tried yet. Incredibly soft and approachable. Fully open nose of sweet dark fruit, graphite, violet, creamy vanilla and leather. More of the same on the palate. Very smooth, silky and perfectly balanced. Long finish with some tannin but that is matched by the fruit. This will be enjoyable to follow over the next decade or two.

Very high Merlot % makes this wine very silky, blackberry, jammy, sweet fruit, the most refined second wine of first growth also perhaps the greatest resemblance to Grand Vin despite very different blend composition. 92-94 pts.

At 14 years old, it is still drinking quite young. Popped and poured to see it develop. I wish I had decanted it for a couple of hours.

Très beau vin délicieux avec une bouche assez souple et en finesse. Je le pensais bien plus vieux à l’aveugle.
Nice delicious wine with a soft and refine palate.

Kept getting better with air. Very typical and traditional bottling from bordeaux. Lots of redcurrant, tobacco and nice long finale.

Gentle, fruity. Still young. Not very complex as 2nd wine for Lafite.
