  • Just over seven years since my last bottle of this. Popped and poured, and showing well right out of the gate. Apple and white peach fruit complemented by light smoky tones and a hint of fresh almond. Acidity is bright and refreshing, even to the point of being zippy, and the sweetness has backed off to about halbtrocken levels. Delicious drinking now, and seems to be well positioned for another five or more years.

  • Sadly, shockingly the last bottle of 09 Donnhoff kabinett in my cellar, and I must have had 3-4 cases of various vineyards. The moral of the story is that I drank these too young, should have had more confidence in vintage over producer. This Kreuzenacher is in a great place, the RS is less evident and the wine shows a decent amount of structure and more acidity tha I'd expect for the vintage. I've had a number of Kabs in the past two weeks (Adam/Frohlich and now this) and while this was more proper and restrained, it was harmonious, balanced, and totally enjoyable.

  • Peach, apple, lemon, lime. Really balanced sweetness- feels sweet then slightly dry on the finish. Floral. Strong acidity. Lingering finish. Really enjoyable.

  • Merger of TTTG &FTTG - Blind (DB): Light lemon color. Lime, lemon. Very young and primary with a bit of spritz. Lemon and apple, with well balanced, light sweetness. 09? Surprising, as this is more elegant than exuberant. My#4 of the night.

  • Green-tinged, light yellow in color, this showed lime and apple fruit, and even a hint of chlorophyll. Surprisingly refreshing acidity for an '09 makes this a more classic kabinett style than is typical to find in these days of global warming.

  • Consistent with previous note. Lovely pure fruit, piercing acidity and subtle sweetness - all in great balance. Excellent!

  • Golden yellow in colour. A hint of petrol, ripe apples, flowers and white stone fruit with a stony minerality on the nose. On the palate, great acidity, also mineral with slighty sweet, pure and delicious fruit notes - apples, peaches, lime. Lively, lots of tension and exciting, leading to a persistent finish. A delicious wine, drinking beautifully now. 91+

  • The nose shows nice honeydew melon, beeswax and pineapple aromas with a touch of minerality. Strange sensations on the palate, this has the weight of something much sweeter but the finish is not very sweet. The melon flavors show on the palate as well but make me think cantaloupe, also flavors of red delicious apple and nectarine. Bright acidity, ok balance with the flavors. It's great Riesling at the price, but this didn't wow me like last time. Like always, I could see this being amazing with spicy curry. Dang, I'm hungry.

  • Bigger-boned than I was expecting (10% alc). Some hints of butter and pineapple amongst the more classic Riesling. Deft and light though. Utterly charming. Dances across the tongue with grace, vif and esprit. On the dry side (which I liked). Delicious. I rather suspect the sweeter designations would carry more complexity though.

  • Conistent with former note. Summer season made it just the more pleasing and fitting.

  • Very pleasing, easy-going kabinett with plenty of up-front fruit and good acidity. No real complexity but a great summer wine, fx. as aperitif.

NOSE: moderately expressive to expressive; ripe honeydew melon; mango; woodsy incense; has a certain “greenness” to it, but not underripe fruit greenness.

BODY: slight spritz; medium-light bodied; pale green-yellow color.

TASTE: seems on the dry side for a Kab. – almost more like a feinherb; good acid, but this is flat acid, rather than jazzy/zippy acid; pear; flowers; this initially came across as loosely-knit, but it came together quite nicely around the 3 hour mark, at which time a light lime note emerged as well; acidity is a bit zippier if the wine is cooled down some (below cellar temp.); with air, SOS goes up a bit to “light Kab.” and out of the feinherb range; 10% alc.; lots of limestone minerality; short finish of moderate intensity; maybe needs another year or two in the cellar to unfurl; good, but not as impressive as its Oberhauser Leistenberg counterpart.

  • This is a very impressive wine. Rich and full. Lots of tropical fruits, only slightly sweet. Crisp and delicious. Incredible QPR.

  • Light yellow. Exudes melon and apple. Big and rich for a Kabinett although not sweet. This feels like a Rheingau Riesling-it is that dense. Viscous but possessing some minerality at the end. Too exotic and heavy for my palate.

  • 1st of the 09's so Donnhoff it is.
Bright and clean with notes of lanolin and beeswax on the nose, whiffs of mint and dusty chalk follow with Orange rind and saddle leather. Very floral and classy. Entry is big, full, ripe with moderate+ acidity with loads of steel, slate, ripe orange, mango, this wine has a roundness from the entrance to the finish that is fantastic. really nice stuff.

  • Great riesling for $20. for my tastes, needs spicy food to pair well.

  • This is an amazing wine at $20 in my opinion. The acidity, as others have already commented, is fresh and focused. A delicious sipper now on it's own or with food, I can't wait to pair this with a spicy meal. EDIT: Just had it with homemade curry, it worked very well. Not as good as a nice Spatlese, but close.

  • Well, I was going to write a tasting note, but after reading troutmonster's note, I have nothing additional to add. Spot on, really describes the wine to a "t". So far (and I've only had 3 or 4 samples) I'm liking the acidity in this vintage a lot more than the '08. The comparisons floating around proclaiming '09 to be a cross between '07 and '08 may be on to something.

  • Really powerful nose of freshly sliced granny smith apples, lemons, and limes, with underlying white flower and undeniable slatey minerality. Up front fruit is loaded with intense, mouth puckering apple fruit but it's matched with unbelievably focused acid that dances across the tongue like a ballerina with pin on the bottom of her feet and lingering wet rock flavors that carry through a long finish. A laser focused wine that is both delicious and structured.
