Still drinking well, but not quite in the sweet spot as it was one year ago. This was our last bottle and I would encourage anyone with remaining bottles to drink up this year. Golden color. Still vanilla, honey and minerals in the nose and peaches and apples in the flavor though definitely not as creamy on the palate. Well balanced, medium to full bodied and a long smooth finish. 93-94

Sensational wine: deep golden color, overwhelming, decadent nose immediately after the cork was out! Fat, buttery, creamy and oily texture, which makes the wine filling out every space, every corner of your mouth and palate; you can’t escape. Supercomplex: notes of peach, apricot, pineapple and other exotic fruits. Vanilla and loads of honey. Superconcentrated. Deep. Complex. Medium to long finish. I doubt whether many wine lovers would be able to identify this one against a Montrachet Grand Cru in a blind tasting. No signs of oxidation. But as I have no experience of old Mount Eden Chardonnays I cannot predict how long this wonderful piece of wine art will persist. Absolutely wonderful now.
This wine was actually in a sweet spot at 15 years old, lush fruit, creamy palate yet nice acidity. Bright gold color. Pears, vanilla and honey in the nose with hints of nuttiness, floral, spice and minerals. Pears, apples and peaches in the flavor. Very well balanced, medium to full bodied and a luscious very smooth and creamy finish. Wow!

I bought a case of this wine many years ago to have a classy chardonnay in the cellar for special occasions. If I remember correctly, it was about $25/bottle, which was a lot for CA chardonnay back then. 11/12 were consumed over the years, with good memories, but one remained hidden away, which I discovered recently. I figured that it was probably over the proverbial hill, but I was not going to dump it, so I cooled it down and opened it tonight. Wow! Still in great form. Color was medium yellow. Smell had cantelope, limes, mangos, papayas. Taste was rich, tart, and bit sweet, with all of the smells reflected on the palate. No sign of oxidation, or being over the hill! If it were less sweet, I would have given an even higher score. Aside form the sweetness, there was not a flaw in his wine. This wine proved to me that chardonnay does not necessarily have to be consumed within the first couple years of its life, which is often prognosticated for chardonnays, but on the contrary, one can age gracefully. I am really curious to know what it is about this wine that made it so age worthy. Please pipe in if you know!!! I will be looking to buy a new case of this wine, for special occasions.

From magnum purchased on release. Decanted to get some air then returned to the bottle to be drunk at the Parent’s table for my daughter’s wedding. Excellent texture and richness with lots of minerality, good acidity and layers of flavor like lemon, butter, a little vanilla and some white peach.delicious and so easy to drink.

Orange oil, caramel, and a zesty minerality on the forward, perhaps just slightly heavy-on-the-oak nose. Round texture. Flavors of blood orange finishing with an appealing spiciness. Drink now through 2025. (Bottle number 10628)

This was very solid. I'm not generally a fan of Cali chardonnay, however this has developed nicely. This had a lovely nose of orchard fruit, lemon pie, vanilla, and spice. The palate is certainly rich and ripe, with present, but not overwhelming oak, but there is a nice vein of acidity that balances the richness giving really a lovely tension. Drinking well now, don't see much upside from here, but should hold for a few years yet.

More open than previous bottle in 2013 but still tightly wound. Medium intensity with creamy Meyer lemon custard, roasted pineapple, vanilla, and sauteed almonds. Was still a little hot after an hour of air with the same lingering oak identified previously.

Gorgeous deep, golden yellow color. Unctuous nose with buttery, lemon and tropical fruits with flinty minerals. Chewy and round yet plenty of life and verve. Palate reflects the nose. Aftertaste goes on for a minute or more. Just lovely!

Pale yellow in color. I don't find the tropical fruits that others do in this wine on either the nose or palate. To me, started out with some apple and minerals, but over time I found mostly minerals and popcorn. A nice drink, but not as much fruit as I would have liked. Nice with clams sautéed with garlic and chives.

Bright golden yellow color. Effusive nose of lemon curd, tropical fruits and flinty minerality. Lots of bright acidity on the palate. Layers of citrus and tropical fruit flavors with a touch of butter in the mid-palate and a very long finish that is mostly lemon curd. From Magnum...this will last a very long time. Superb!

Stored in ideal condition since purchase. Taken to Central Kitchen in San Francisco for a celebratory dinner. Opened and out came a white wine so dark in color I thought I was drinking an aged Sauternes. Boy were we disappointed. Other than some oak and oxidative flavor, it never opened up. So disappointing. DOA. I hope others have better luck.

Typically superb Mount Eden Estate Chard. Wonderful golden color, fairly effusive nose, bright acidity evident. Needs 1-3 hours of breathing and is best as it warms from cellar temperature. Wonderful with a seafood risotto. Flavors are bright with lemon curd, pear, nice minerality and some well integrated oak that is balanced with the fruit and acidity. Some nuttiness that is hard to precisely identify. Long aftertaste.

Golden color with lovely citrus notes, hints of caramel, and underlying minerality. The palate is luscious, but not flabby with delightful flavors and acidity. Finishes well with just a hint of roundness. This likely has years of development still ahead, but is delicious now.

Tightly wound with intrusive alcohol and oak tannin the first night. Second night was in the zone and third day even better. Nose was medium intensity with creamy Meyer lemon custard, roasted pineapple, vanilla, and butter-sauteed almonds. The moderate creaminess followed onto the palette which suffered slightly from some lingering oak, heat, and sharpness. Much more integrated by the third night and overall seems to need another 3-4 years in the cellar. Nice, long finish.
This 2007 was superb although I slightly prefer the 2006 due to its extra freshness and lift.

Vertical of Mount Eden Estate Chardonnay (Nopa, San Francisco): Essentially the same full yellow color as the '06. More citrus, less wax and lees on the nose. Same mouthfilling, carressing texture, though, and again, outstanding length and persistence. This was uplifted by blood orange and a touch of bitters which to me gave it the slightest edge over the older wine. Both vintages were fantastic.

Brought by Bill to CWM dinner at Adelle's. Initially tight as a drum, but opened substantially after about 2.5 hours. Drank side by side with 2008 Vincent Girardin Meursault Les Tillets, so it was interesting to see the oak treatment between the two. 92 for now, but a big potential upswing with some time in cellar.

Dinner with xhoser: old & new world comparisons (Adelle's, Wheaton): Deep color. Reticent...no bouquet at first, with very simple apple, vanilla and roa qualities on the palate. It opened up over a couple of hours though, revealing hazelnut, roasted almond, pear and apple and creme brûlée aromas. Full-bodied, with baked apple, butterscotch and hazelnut flavors, picking up a wet stone quality on the long finish. Recommend holding this for a couple of years yet, or give it an hour or two in a decanter. Could easily add a point or two at peak.

Opened for two hours. Light brass and watery gold in colour. Apple cider, sun drenched brick, stone, citrus, banana pudding and melon on both the nose and palate, with an exuberantly long and buttery finish, showcasing a little oak. Serious and multi-dimensional, this is a pure class-in-a-glass Chardonnay. The earthy and fruity components are woven so harmoniously well together that I am left very contemplative. Round and succulent, and brilliant acidity. This is another classic from one of my favorite producers in all of California. Drink 2012 - 2024.

Honeymoon Wines; 5/21/2011-5/28/2011: Floral apricot melon and stone nose. Palate is sharply delineated, ripe slightly tropical fruits and lush mouthfeel, but focused and slightly tight. Unintegrated oak notes dominate the finish, adding creamy vanilla that tuned slightly bitter, but the fruit hangs on with a nice mineral stoney edge. Given time, I think will come together nicely, though the oak became more bothersome after 2 days open in the fridge.

Good color. Chalky and honey nose. Palate was sweet with creamy, honey, toasty oak components. Noticed a touch of pineapple too. Lemon grass -- maybe. Lots of toast. Nice flavors, but expected this wine to evolve more with time in the glass and as the bottle was consumed. Needs more refinement. Not quite the "absolute knockout" that the San Francisco Chronicle noted on 2/28/10.

Another bottle tasted while on vacation in Monterey. An appealing Chardonnay that combines opulent fruit with firm minerality and cut. It's still showing plenty of youthful oak, but underneath the oak one finds rich, complex peach/pineapple fruit and a whiff of minty eucalyptus that really speaks to the Santa Cruz Mountains terroir. More than a passing resemblance to a ripe Burgundy; more like a Chassagne or Meursault than a Chablis. But calling this wine "Burgundian" wouldn't be fair, because it isn't trying to imitate anything -- it's just a lovely reflection of a great terroir.

Pop and pour. Served a bit cool at first, throw wine was very crisp and clean almost Chablis like. Citrus and mineral components at first. Secondary notes came as the wine warmed in the glass, particulary a nutty characteristic. Layers and layers of depth, a great wine that evolved in the glass. My first experience with Mount Eden, but their track record makes me want to follow this wine for years.

A nice balance of citrus fruits, minerality, and oak. This tastes more Burgandy than California. Enjoyed.

RUSSK WW@Boulud in Mia 95+Pinot and Chard By&CA. It was mine. Nice fruit nose. Not too heavy. A touch bitter.

Excellent wine dominated not so much by the oak but the toast of the oak. Lots of depth and flavor. Prior vintages have aged well.

Served blind. A striking mix of opulent CA fruit and the minerality of a fine CdB. Excellent balance, medium body, medium finish. Most guessed Burgundy. Wine of the night.

Another excellent Mount Eden Chardonnay. Beautiful balance. Drinking nicely now and should develop even more complexity with a couple more years in the bottle.

Very powerful focused nose. Lots of white burg like nuances with an added back bone of intense mineral and acid. Great combination of richnes and crisp lift. Very long and persistent finish.

Nose - shy (served too cold), warm rich loquat, cinnamon spice, touches of lemon and orange.
Loquat/orange/lemon, good low-key oak spice, nice herbs, good minerality, good supporting richness of fruit. Drink '16-'26. 93+ pts

Ripe full fruit, touch of asaparagus, but well done. Rather fat but still showing off. If you like Monterey Chard this definately works.
