Boxing day at NY Verden: Easy to guess as a Bordeaux grape dominant blend. Earthy greenness on the nose but the sweetness of fruit showed its Italian roots. Quite a modernist producer I think but relative to the Tua Rita and the Le Macchiole this was less over the top. Did not quite have the stuffing of a good Bordeaux.

Popped and poured....cork was in excellent shape. Color was decent with light bricking but it was totally over maturated and fowl tasting...let it decant in the bottle for 30 more hours with no improvement...it rests in my compost heap now...i have two left...hopefully yet are in better shape!

Tasted at the winery. 60% Cabernet sauvignon, 40% Sangiovese. Aged 18 months in French oak, the small barrels common around the world but not as much in Chianti. This has some spice to it, black pepper, cinnamon; medium fruit, medium acidity, medium tannin. Balanced. Our American tasting group liked this the best, maybe to be expected from the familiar notes of the cabernet and the fact that we tasted it without food -- contrary to the way Chianti is traditionally enjoyed (with food). Personally I rated it about the same as the other Vecchie Terre wines.
