Brambles, mushroom (forest floor?) and subtle dark red fruit on the nose. Palate is savory with balanced acidity, with fruit showing through. Finish in long and consistent with nose and palate....leaves you wanting another sip! great example of Syrah from this area, a true standard bearer

Drank over two nights. Inky dark color. Tannins were smooth and well integrated. Took an hour of so to open up. Black berries and blue berries, some baking spice, and showed that classic Larner sandy loamy mineral character that I love.

This wine was at its best after about an hour of air and was at peak until the 3 hour mark. It showed a wide range of notes including dark berries, blueberries, black cherry, spice and earth. A really good and tasty wine with smooth tannin.

Enjoyed over 4 hours and it was at its best after about 90 minutes of air. Although it was good upon opening. Earthiness dominated early on and then juicy blackberry notes joined the party. A really good wine that I'm glad I have a few more bottles of.

Killer Syrah. One hour decant. Big blue and black fruit, with a backdrop of black olive and light vanilla notes. A bit of crushed rock, too. Well balanced; not getting an overabundance of acid as suggested by earlier reviews. Just an outstanding Syrah drinking really well right now. Another 3-4 years to go, minimum.

Ripe and intense like most Jaffurs. Cola, spice, blue fruits, a little thin on the finish. Larner seems to me to be the more refined/restrained single vineyard offering from Craig. Everything is in balance. A good, quality wine that would benefit from a few more years in the cellar. Of the '09 Jaffurs I have had, this one seems to be one of the better ones in a relatively tough year. I am letting the rest sit in the cellar for at least 2-3 years.

I dunno, maybe I was having an off night but I wasn't really feeling this. The acid level was a little distracting and the fruit seemed one-dimensional. Good, but not 'Jaffurs Good.'

Very similar notes to my March 25th tasting. Pours dark purple. Herbs and black olive on nose, tar on midpalate with hints of green bell pepper, black pepper, vanilla spice.

Always my favorite of the Jaffurs syrahs. Had the 2009 Thompson two days ago, and the Larner blows it away. The Larner has firm but supple tannins, as well as a delicious combination of ripe blackberries and tar/smoke. No heat and nothing over the top about this wine. Would definitely buy again. Very accessible even today but will probably improve in a year or two.

Nose is a potent mix of bright cherry, roasted herbs, spices and smoke. Maybe just a touch of green veggies as well. Midpalate is medium weight, finish is repeat of nose with olives, pepper, complex red fruit and vanilla infused spices with chalky tannins. This by far is the most rustic Jaffurs Syrah.

Basically a p&p , but it did evolve nicely in the glass for a few hours. Rather dark and ominous, this has a really nice color. Th nose is very complex, showing dark fruit, tar, cinnamon apples, black olives, and some stems. It's inviting, but doesnt come across as over extracted. The palate shows much more of the same, but with lively acidity that provides a backbone for these flavors to shine, while a dusty finish finishes longggg... Great now and likely will improve for a few years. Impressive!

Black tar and black olive on nose. Similar flavors on midpalate with nuances of green bell pepper. Texture is smooth and balanced throughout. Good wine wine overall. The profile will provide more depth with age.

Delicious well aged Syrah. Savory deep dark fruit that satisfies the senses. Nice long brambly finish. Perfect match with osso bucco dinner tonight.

Drank from mag. All in balance. Very enjoyable. Needs an hour or so of air. On point. Not extraordinary, but very good. Will go a few more years.
