  • 2019 Gantenbein Pinot Noir

Light ruby pink with violet hue. Nose upon opening somewhat brett, metallic. Evolving into petrol, pepper, kirsch, grilled meat. It’s got an alcoholic strong note of vapor. Foreshadowing a structured and strong wine. Rich kirsch-cherry, slight vanilla showing oak, brambles, etc. Needs decanting for 1+ hour for sure. Long life ahead. Very nice and surely collectible in the panoply of Swiss producers.

From Magnum. Decanted 4 Hrs. Lilac, cassis, dark purple hue. Concentrated dark fruit medley of brambles, soft cassis, some metallic hue on the nose. Still very young. Prune with cassis, some tobacco and leather on the palate. Still some stringent tannins. After 2 hours more round and full. Great aging potential. Very nice structure. Buy and lay down for 5+ years at least.

  • 1988 La Dame de Montrose

Moist cork, but extricated in full. Just be careful and take it slow. TS bottle. No decant. Velvet brick full colour. Opened nicely over a period of 1 hour. Nose of rost meat, burnt tobacco, slight metallic overtime over the first 15 minutes. Tannins are fully dissolved. Good structure and full bodied mouth-feel. Medium-long finish. Brooding roast meat, tobacco, slight capsicum, medley of very ripe red fruit (esp cassis, brambles). Slight sour undertone over first 15-20 minutes. Very little sediment (astonishingly). Overall a very pleasant second wine, for which I had limited expectations. Still got some room to maintain its level. But ready to drink now. Accumulate if found!
