Somewhat austere nose, but I can pick up some red and purple berries, sometimes a little perfume, shrubs.
On the palate the wine is medium or even light-bodied, watery in texture. While there is clearly some acid, there isn't any real zing. Very smooth without being at all flabby. There's the slight tartness and flavour of cranberry, a bit of black plum on the mid-palate (both the skin and the ripe flesh of the fruit). The tannins are also like that of black plum skin, but dusted with powdered cocoa. Obviously from time in oak barrels, but with barely a hint of wood.
I paid $45 for this which is probably high. It is however a well made and balanced wine. Drink now or hold for a few more years. "Good".

Nose: Floral, shrubs, ripe smashed berries Taste: chalky tannins, good acidity, light - probably low abv, preserved orange peel, iodine, some earthy or even slightly rubbery bitterness, you could convince me it's walnut. This is at a good spot right now for my tastes. It's my one and only bottle, and while I have no regrets drinking this now, I wish I had another to hang onto and revisit 10-15 years from now...for giggles.
Overall, this is a very good wine if you like aged wines, and the value is very good for the 30 bones I paid. It's not complex, but also not dirt simple. If this is still $30 now, it's an excellent everyday Rioja Gran Reserva.
