  • 2001 Domaine de Boède Vin de Pays d'Oc Les Grès

    Perfect shape bottle

Smells and tastes of mourvedre, but supposedly just grenache shiraz

Nose:Mint, roast meat, black cherry, hazelnut

Taste: huge ripe tannins, prunes, cocoa, well balanced acidity

Finish: extremely long, prunes, charcoal, oak, cherry

Wine still feels young, certainly drinking well noe. Opened up over several hours and I would risk a guess that it is nowhere near its peak

  • 2006 Weingut Hirsch Grüner Veltliner Lamm

Tasted on its own after a gruner Veltliner tasting two weeks before (mainly young top end GV's)
Still, surprisingly slightly fizzy initially (about first 2 minutes in the glass)
On the nose: Lavender (on a white wine!!!), violet, Melon, starfruit, almost salty, green apple
Taste: very dense, oily, huge flavor of fruits and toasted bread, melon, granny smith
On the finish: extreme length, melon, sherbet, starfruit, toasted bread again, banana skin, quite some acidity
Altogether a truly impressive wine, with most certainly many years of life ( and maybe improvement?) left in it. tentatively drinking ideal drinking window from 2013-2021, maybe much longer, only time will tell, feeling quite lucky to have a case left and will update on the next bottle opened....

  • 2009 Konyari Loliense

Initially Extremely dirty (bordering on offensive) nose, with a mixture of barnyard and some similarity to strong brettanomyces.
On the palate very dense smooth with lots of fruit and good balance. Long finish with extreme minerally notes, followed by plums and a collection of spices
After about 3o min nose opens up to something like cumin and soft cheese. Palate and finish begin to approach very old style dirty claret (not totally surprising given the bordeaux blend of grapes)
Altogether a most fascinating wine; only time and bottle age will tell where this is really going.
Currently 90 points as a compromise for not yet knowing where this may be going, if the development in the glass is anything to go by this could deserve some much higher rating in future, only time will tell....
