8/25/2023 10:04:00 AM - Hey Ercument. Thanks for accepting my friend request. I make wine in Oregon's Willamette Valley and will be visiting Turkey in April 2024. I'd love to hear about specific regions and wineries you recommend and if there is someone you could recommend as a wine guide. Perhaps we can see you when we're there and share some Oregon Pinot Noir. If you're interested, email me at sherman.marty@gmail.com. Cheers, Marty Sherman

6/27/2015 2:33:00 AM - Hi John, welcome and have a great time in Istanbul. For the widest range of Turkish wines, I'd recommend Sensus Wine Bar right next to Galata Tower. Their wine in the glass offerings are limited though. You could enjoy a nice bottle or two over dinner too. For a delicious and authentic modern Turkish cousine paired with decent Turkish wine, try Yeni Lokanta at Pera/Istiklal Caddesi (street). You should book in advance for this very popular restaurant. It's a little bit pricey as well. For good wine by the glass offerings, Corvus Wine Shop, by the popular Corvus Wines at Akaretler/Besiktas is a nice choice. Try their Corpus and Blend No.5 reds and they have some indigenous grape blends as well. A gem for Turkish wines would be İncirli Winehouse at Kurucesme. They have a very good collection of Turkish wines and good food over live music during weekends. One recommendation for authentic winebar would be Pano Sarapevi at Pera. I wouldn't guarantee their quality of wines but it's been serving wine there for ages, so it's a tradition and a very nice place to hang out with locals. Also delicious food and nice Turkish wine pairings, you could find at Delicatessen restaurants. There are two of them; one in Pera, Istiklal Caddesi, more crowded and touristic part of town and one in Nisantasi, more stylish part of town, which is not far from Taksim Square. Rudolf (restaurant and terrace bar) at Karakoy10 hotel and Vault Restaurant at House Karakoy Hotel and its terrace bar are places you can find good wine with good food. Also I strongly recommend Neolokal restaurant at Salt Galata. The building is the restored HQ of late Ottoman Bank with the Bank's museum inside and an art exhibition gallery and the food is neo Turkish cuisine as the name suggests. Meze By Lemon Tree at Pera would be anther treat for lokal Turkish wood and wine. The chef is an internationally renowned one. Now for the wine. I'll list my favorites and be remineded that they're all subjective and also premium priced (25usd and above a bottle): Reds: - Sevilen Centum Syrah - Corvus Blend no.5 - Chateau Nuzun Cab Sav - Chateau Kalpak Bourdeaux blend - Urla Tempus - Urla Vourla - Urla Bogazkere - Doluca Alcitepe - Barbare Prestige - Barbare Elegance - Chamlija Merlot - Chamlija Nev-i Sahsina Munhasir - Kayra Versus Syrah, Viognier - Kayra Vintage Merlot - Selendi blend - Kayra Buzbag Reserve - Umurbey Reserve - Kavaklidere Okuzgozu-Bogazkere reserve Whites: - Cote D'Avanos Sav. Blanc - Cote D'Avanos Chardonnay - Urla Sav Blanc - Urla Chardonnay - Umurbey Sav Blanc - Chamlija Viognier-Narince - Kavaklidere Narince-Emir Rose - Prodom Rose - Barbare Rose Cheers

12/29/2014 5:13:00 AM - Hi Ercument, Thanks for accepting my friend request. I have been exploring some Turkish native grapes and winemakers when I come to Turkey (my family is Turkish, so I come about twice a year). I am interested in what you like of native wines. When I come, I do also bring some non-Turkish wines to have with dinners of the outstanding food we have. in TurkeyCheers, Nesli

12/29/2013 5:17:00 PM - Hi Ercument Sener, thanks for your friend request, I found the wine at a lovely Turkish restaurant in the suburbs of Sydney - http://www.efendy.com.au/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=57&Itemid=65 - they say that they are the only people to bring this wine into Australia. We can get Greek and Lebanese wines here relatively easily though. cheers, chatters

10/30/2013 11:50:00 PM - Hi Ercument, it's good to "meet" you. I have spent several very happy vacations traveling through the Southern Turkish coast (Marmaris, Fetiyah, Turunc etc.) and loved the expressiveness of native grape Turkish red and white wine. Judging by your tasting notes, I think you should definitely try Ch. Musar from the Lebanon. Get the 1999 if you can find it or otherwise 2000/2001. Cheers, Mike
