  • 2015 Joh. Jos. Prüm Bernkasteler Badstube Riesling Kabinett

Delightful. Both lemon and lime were key features, brilliant acidity. Thin film / plastic reminder of Riesling but the focus was on the lemon/lime. Drank with two curries and a dhal (all with a lot of chilis), absolutely perfect pairing. Acidity, lemon and lime was like an anchor of refreshment carrying the wine through the spice.

Note: rating influenced by food pairing, perhaps not as high rating w/o it. Debated which of my Prums to open, glad I didnt’ open more expensive / sweeter bottles in cellar due to spice. I maybe would’ve rated lower without the brilliant food pairing. Simple and straightforward but I don’t mean that as criticism here. Might be críticism if drank on its own.

honeysuckle, tropical fruit, cinnamon, stone, filament / thin film on nose. paired with spicy dhal and okra curry. stunning pairing - perfect amount of sweetness here, not overbearing with plenty of acidity. color is golden yellow. drinking *very* well but still has a lot of development. double edged sword because drank perfectly with meal, my last bottle and seems v. capable of aging a lot longer

Superb, drinking near peak. Very balanced, stunning showing: 4 hour decant, singing until last drop an hour after first pour. Classic nose leather, forest floor, cassis; fruit and berries shine on the palate + slightly herbaceous, nice acidity, integrated tannins (tannins slightly jarring upon first open 4 hours earlier, smoothed out over decant). All in harmony with a cast iron seared sirloin w/ herb compound butter. Nose keeps drawing me back to glass. Stunning pairing this bottle pretty much Bordeaux perfection land for me; killer nose, palate, length, harmony of each component, pairing with a robust steak. I've had technically better wines (96 Lafite comes to mind) but where this wine is right now, felt pretty close to perfection for what I want in my Bordeaux. My best showing in st julien in long time (inc. plenty of las cases 1988-2005, hardly lightweight competition).
