The nose of cedar wood and stewed plums lead the way to a blood red in color wine. Pouring the wine from the bottle to the decanter I marveled at the brilliant color, but my first thought was that this looked blood red. The first sip was a punch of cedar right up front and center. Other complimenting flavors were graphite, cigar tobacco, wet stone, and dried cherry. With decanting, the slight amount of dried cherry was the only fruit present. The tannins were polished and supple with enough grip to be noticed. It did flatten-out a bit mid palate, it finished dry and somewhat short. Served with NY strip steak finished with butter and truffles with a baked potato on the side. Great food wine, and one I would share with friends. Would purchase again at the right price. Drink sooner than later, not sure if more age would benefit this wine.

Kick-off f a new vinous year & to that end also a brand new theme - #bordeaux2024. Here’s the splendid second wine of Pauillac Ch Pichon Baron (v14, 13.5% ABV, 65% M, 20% CS, 10% CF, 5% PV) - lovely deep & fresh aromatics - v immediate & open on the nose, finely textured, layered & quite vibrant in style. Deep ruby, semi-translucent w violet reflections in appearance. Nose sings w scents of cassis, black pepper, graphite, tad of cherries. Smooth, rich, well-integrated oak, m-bodied palate, highly drinkable, juicy & pure, dryish close!

This is a pleasant wine. I’ve had this in my cellar since release. It has a classic bdx character without the completeness or complexity of the classified growths. It was ready immediately for consumption, but a quick decant to remove the sediment was helpful. I tend to agree with previous notes that this is not built to last much longer. Drink up!

Abundant, well-rounded fruit front of palate, first sip had me thinking wow! That depth of fruit you can get with Lafite. Tannins approachable. Lesser quality becomes obvious once vintage revealed (2014, I doubt I'd hold past 10 years) and that decant past 30 minutes didn't bring anything else out. What it was when I popped was what we got, less some of the astringency. After 60 minutes, a lot of that fruit disappeared out making it feel slightly "thin" at end. Drank slowly over 4 hours out of decanter, drinking worse at the end than the beginning. But that's splitting hairs given price. Lovely and great value.

My wife and I love this wine. This was the last of my 2014s - fortunately I just bought a case of the 2016. This is mostly a Merlot blend grown on a plot within the Baron Pichon estate. It is very nicely integrated between fruit and oak. It is much softer than the typical Cab predominate Pauillac blend. I wish it were easier to find. In my opinion it does not need to be decanted and it can be drunk fairly young.
