The colour is ruby, with surprising youthfulness. The limpidity has something to be desired, but that is due to the sediment and the fact that we brought it from horizontal. On the nose, dusty blackberries and sun-warmed garrigue, with a bit of hay, dust, and black licorice. On the palate, a lovely lightness, a surprising amount of fruit & (shockingly, after letting the wine breathe) dried flowers, and beautifully integrated tannins. The wine is a bit hot with a touch of brett (more when just opened) but is still drinking well. I wouldn't hold longer than another year or two (depending on storage conditions).

On a personal note, this wine completely transports me back to our visit to the domaine in 2011. It smells like walking up the dusty, sun warmed path. I am back in the vines, and smelling the garrigue while looking up at the dentelles de montmirail and feeling the mistral wind. This wine makes me remember why I fell in love with wine in the first place. Wine is time travel. The 1st time I tasted this, I was a corporate attorney in Las Vegas, traveling back & forth between LV & Geneva while my husband was finishing up his PhD at CERN. I wasn't in the wine business. When this wine was harvested, I had just gradated from university & was trying to learn how to adult. Now, 5 years after our visit, I've followed my passion & work in wine as a wine importer, wine judge, wine educator, & wine events planner. This is why I love wine. Because in one sip, I'm the young woman that was there, walking up that dusty path to Domaine de Coyeux.
