  • 2005 Domaine Tempier Bandol

Deep and dark in color. This wine is a true beauty. It is another stellar vintage for Tempier. The nose is loaded with tons of different stuff starting with a touch of manuer, followed by dark fruits; cherries, blackberries. It also has some good herbal characteristics (herb de Provence). The body of the wine is big with great acid to counter those crazy tannins. This is a wine that will live on and on forever and ever!!!!!!!!! I love it. Simply the kind of juice that warms my heart. The finish is long and a tiny bit bitter, remenicent of black olives. Recommended drinking: 2009-2018. Baring in mind all the crazy stories from Kermit Lynch's "Inspiering Thirst" I would not be surprised if it lived for much, much longer. Recommended food paring: simple food, a great steak accompanied by sides with flavors of Provence (eggplant, tamatoes, zucchini, thyme, garlic, etc.) Great, Great Stuff!!!!!

Wine has an orangish tint around the border of the glass. Nose shows a bit of oxidation, followed by complex aromas of dried fruits. In particular cherries, prunes and figs. I also detected small hints of coffee, chocolate and leather. On the mouth the wine is medium in body. My first impression is that the acid is lacking just a bit (not quite as I remembered it from one year ago). It also seems a little hot on the finish. Other then that, the nose comes through on the palate: acetone and dried fruits are all over the place with a long finish that is nicely roasty (reminiscent of coffee). Drink NOW!!!!! Recommended food paring spanish cheeses ( Basquito, Manchego, Cana de Oveja, La Serena Torta) and or spanish cured meats (Jamon de Jabugo, Chorizo, Jamon serrano).

  • 2005 Alain Graillot Crozes-Hermitage

The nose has a fair amount of game meats, as well as smoke, followed by lavander notes and a hint of licorice. Medium in body and weight with a lot of acidity. Good tannic structure (probably too young to drink now). The minerality is present throughout. This Crozes Hermitage finishes long with tons of blackberry and a touch of cider. The smoke also comes through on the finish. Recommended food pairing: light game meats like squab, lamb or duck. Recommended drinking time frame, 2010-2012.
