Bottle 471 of 1533. Vines over 100 years old, mainly Arinto from the Azores, but also Verdelho, Boal (Malvasia Fino) and Alicante Branco. The vineyard is close to the sea, only 50 metres away. I usually have problems with wines that are grown on volcanic lava (black basalt), because it usually gives the wine a special flavour that I don't like. Here it is different, the wine smells of salt, apricots, apricot kernel oil, lemon, lime and yellow fruits, plus a trace of reduction. The nose alone is an experience. The entry into the mouth is characterised by a silky texture and a great pressure that goes through the whole mouth, the richness of the wine (warm & dry year) is perfectly cushioned by the acidity. The wine finishes with a very long aftertaste (more than 30 seconds). A very sensual and elegant wine. The best white wine I have ever tasted from Portugal so far. My thanks go to the Sommelier of the Wine Bar “Bar-rique” in Bremen for the selection. Drunk from René Gabriel glasses with various fish dishes.

Excellent sherry! Perfect sherry for people who prefer a fruity, fresh style of manzanilla that smells and tastes just a little like acetaldehyde. Great drinking flow, the bottle gets empty too quickly...
