Read several notes from other wine enthusiasts and my comment for those that opened this high quality vintage is this: "If you opened before 2010, than you really didn't give this Brunello di Montalcino a fair review and wasted your chance. 97 was a good year for Brunello. We opened in Nov 2018 for daughter's 21st birthday since it was harvested with the same year. Purchased in 2002 in the Old Wine Shop in Florence. Decanted one hour, very little sediment but filtered the last third anyway. Served with grass fed 1 1/2 inch thick grilled rare New York strip. It was everything expected and more. Brick red edge to garnet center in color. A savory nose with earthy ripened cherry, savory mushroom, and old vine. Flavor notes of dried fig and sweet black currant, plum and mineral. Very refined tannins and balanced acidity. Excellent! Was worth the wait for both wine and daughter.
