This was a very fun, interesting wine to try on Friday 1/19/24. Decanted and immediately poured and tried. While it’s definitely past its prime, it was still fun to try. Felt more like a Pinot than a California Cab. Definitely not a favorite, but we all enjoyed tasting it. The wine looks crimson colored. The legs are fast. There is light sediment in the bottle. It smells like mineral, mushroom, raspberry and black currant (cassis). It tastes like forest floor. The body is light. The wine has juicy texture. The wine finishes short.

Along with her two siblings, Brown owns and operates Brown Estate , the first and only Black-owned winery in the Napa Valley. Technically, Deneen Brown and her siblings are the second-generation to run the brand; their parents started it in 1980. The flagship wine is Zinfandel, and it has been one of the highest-rated Zins out of Napa Valley since the late 1990s. Today, Brown Estate grows and makes wine at the family property in the Chiles Valley and runs a swanky second floor tasting room in downtown Napa. Deneen Brown is intricately involved in both operations.
HOUSE OF BROWN is a second label offspring of Brown Estate, Napa Valley’s first Black-owned estate winery. As our Brown brand has attracted a terrifically diverse consumer base over the last two-plus decades, a vibrant community and dynamic culture have evolved inside our ecosystem. HOUSE OF BROWN, created to expand access to the Brown wine experience, is an homage to the Come one, come all (come correct!) ethos that defines our vibe.

This was such a great find. Bursting with flavor, approachable now but will still be good with time. Really Really enjoyed after about an hours decant.
