This wine was probably much better about a year ago. It is still got a lot of dark red fruit and acid, but the tannins seem to overtake it a bit. Decanting, even for hours, doesn't seem to help as the fruit just fades into the background. This used to be one of my favorite WA reds because it just had everything going at once.

This was actually a very good wine. Somewhat lighter-bodied, but good balance of fruit and acidity, and not a trace of tannins. Not a high QPR, but a solid wine; perhaps one of the best Pinot Noirs from WA state.

At first, even after an hour of decanting, this seemed like a flat, hot wine, with barely any fruit; so unlike the other years of Quarry Butte I've enjoyed. I was worried I'd left it in the bottle too long. But after another 30-60 minutes out, it started to come alive. Brief pomegranate and dust up front, with black cherry and earth right behind. Worked well with oilier/fattier foods than the lean beef I initially paired it with.
