Past it’s prime but still had a bit of life left. A good amount of acid and minerality though mostly plum notes and stewed fruits. A good amount of length. This was beautiful five years ago.

Light ruby body with orange tinge. There is initially sour cherry on the nose. Over some time in the glass, this initial fruit combines with a medley of savory herbs and floral notes (rosemary, roses) and earth notes of tar and petrichor. Palate is mid+ acid and and mid+ tannin with more cherry and herbal notes (rosemary especially). Finish is short but this is still tightly wound and expect this to evolve with time. Needs at least 5 years to resolve.

A nose of black cherry, briar and bramble, baking spice and soui bois leap out of the glass. As it warms up, dried leaves and mushrooms begin to take hold. A highly aromatic wine indeed. On the palate, more black cherry and baking spice that is so characteristic of Sta Rita Hills you could pick the wines out of a lineup. Nicely structured and still featuring M(+) acidity and middleweight, mouth coating tannins. Finishes fairly long with more mushroom and earth. Overall a great wine at this price and highly recommend picking up a few bottles if they can be found. Drink now through next five years.
If only all CA pinot was made with such a deft touch!
