Chablis and I rarely cross paths; it’s just not my cup of tea - or glass of wine, if you will - given its typical aromatic profile and stylistic leanings (perhaps I need to venture more into the realms of Raveneau to start to love it). This ripe 2018 vintage of Billaud MdT, certainly didn’t convert me. Beyond the general style and aromatics that I tend to shy away from, the wine lacked definition, feeling flabby from the mid-palate onward. It did start off with a promising fresh and zesty attack, but that wasn't enough to win me over. 85pts.

A little rounder and more showing the very ripe vintage compared to my last bottle. Still a very nice Chablis, just not up there with the best vintages at this address.

For a 2018, this was standout. The nose is flint, sea breeze salinity and lemon peel with a soft undercurrent of floridity. The palate possesses a well balance mouth feel that has resolved nicely - no mouth pucker here but the acid is still very much evident and add excellent round structure. Slate and crushed oyster shell with more lemon peel is reinforced here with high acidity and mid low sugar. The finish is more dense minerality akin to swishing small smooth stones in the mouth and additional lemon. Served with oysters Rockefeller in absinthe sauce. This paired nicely.

Tasted at a social event. Fruit of green apple and fresh green herbs. Crisp and firm acidity, but otherwise rather flabby structure.

Nice nose here with oak spice and lemon. The palate was a bit too rich and fruity.
