  • 2021 Stonyfell Chardonnay The Cellars - unwooded

Affordable wine that punches way above its price tag. Zesty and custard apple aroma (note: custard apple isn't apple :D ) with unexpectedly a hint of vanilla (which typically shouldn't be present in unwooded wine). Citrusy on the palate with high acidity - for one second I actually thought I mistakenly opened a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. Dry with a smooth finish.
If you are used to the typical heavily-oaked Chardonnay (or wine in general), you will definitely be disappointed. But that's a bit like buying pork and expecting it to taste like beef. On its own, this is a very good fruity wine - the custard apple aroma is actually quite unusual in a good way.
This is an easy to drink wine without needing to pair with food. I also found it pairing well with pan-fried gnocchi with Italian sausage. Essentially something a bit fatty will work well with the wine high acidity.

  • 2019 Langmeil Cabernet Sauvignon The Blacksmith

Very fruit-forward aroma with oaky notes. Blackcurrant and plum on the palate. Medium tannins and acidity with very smooth mouthfeel and very good finish - long but not so long that you wonder when it was gonna stop kinda thing.
A very good wine and definitely borderline excellent.

  • 2018 Pirramimma Petit Verdot

Vanilla and olive almost peppery aroma. Stone fruit and oaky on the palate with medium-low acidity. Medium, slightly chalky tannins which makes it easy to drink and pair with food and yet quite distinctive. Clean finish and doesn't linger. A very interesting wine with an unfamiliar grape varietal for European wine drinkers.
I think it pairs really well with red meat but not the very fatty kind (which requires a bit more acidity than this one). For an unconventional pairing, try this with sourdough bread and truffle butter - it acts almost like an olive oil of sort due to the pepperiness.
88 on its own but definitely 90+ when paired with tenderloin steak.
