  • 1995 Château Mouton Rothschild

Perfect cork and level. Can't believe how closed this is upon popping. Hints of red cherries and lead pencil starts to float out the glass after 15 minutes, but tannins still big on the palate which covers out all the fruit underneath.

Decanted for 2 hours, sweet nose of blackcurrents, cassis, mushrooms, leather and a hint of violets. Medium body but silky smooth on the palate with fading tannins. medium-ish finish but seems to not have the typical strength of a Mouton (maybe bottle variation?). Perhaps will not try another bottle any time soon, still have quite some life left in it.

  • 2006 Luciano Sandrone Barolo Le Vigne

Dead closed after popping the cork, muted nose and tannins as thick as a brick wall on the palate, this boy is still sleeping.

After an hour, nose start to show some delightful aromas of red cherries, berries, liquorice and creamy pistachio. Tannins are still going strong, covering most of the fruit on the palate. Hopefully will open up after decanting at the restaurant.

Still showing nothing on the palate during dinner, plug the cork back in and brought it home....

After 1 week, finally starting to show its true colours, beautiful nose of cherries and raspberries, fading tannins on the palate but with lots of bright red fruits, medium finish. Conclusion: wine is completely closed up and is in a deep sleep, will not pop another bottle within the next 2 years.

Opened for 1 hour before drinking and drank over 3 hours. Top quality for a village. Sweet nose of cherries and red berries, with a mild hint of chocolate and leathery flavours as the wine starts to open up. A little bit weak on the palate with a short finish and starts to fade out as the night ends.
