Sunday Night - pork and Shaun of the Dead: Enjoyed with char siu, dumplings and Shaun of the Dead. Super fragrant - maybe more than other bottles, or maybe my nose is just working overtime tonight. Savoury, just a hint of sourness at the back. Such wonderfully lovely stuff. I find it annoying when people use the word "juice" to describe wine but...in this case it somehow seems appropriate - there is something of the sense of natural bounty here.
I do, though, sometimes I think I fall into the trap of thinking "what joy this brings for a humble villages burg" - just looked at what it would cost me to buy more of these and...wowza - two bottles of this will get you a bottle of Ridge Monte Bello (plus a kebab to eat with it)

Friday Night Dinner (The leafy West London suburbs): Went down very well. Was pulled into action quickly after a different wine smelled too much like the back end of a horse. Delicious from the first sip to the last. I don’t think you can say this punches above its villages weight, more that there is nothing there that shouldn’t be. None of the cherry sourness I’ve had from previous bottles - which I suspect may be a factor of the food rather than the wine - but all the kind of wild strawberry and savoury delciousness I associate with this producer.

Opened for 1 hour before drinking and drank over 3 hours. Top quality for a village. Sweet nose of cherries and red berries, with a mild hint of chocolate and leathery flavours as the wine starts to open up. A little bit weak on the palate with a short finish and starts to fade out as the night ends.

End of the May weekend: All too easy to drink. There's a non-sweet sweetness to it that makes it strangely attractive - a character I often get from Jouan's wines. The nose was brambly, some red fruits, just a hint of substance to it. Could sit and smell this for hours. On the palate - what's to say - everything burgundy should be. Savoury, some red fruits and it keeps going. Went excellently with roast chicken and loud children.

Lovely. Hint of sour cherry. Red fruits. Really super for a villages wine. Went down well with roast pork and what we do in the shadows.
