  • PnP, tasted blind. Appearance: Clear, deep ruby. Nose: Clean, medium intensity with developing aromas of blackberry, black raspberry, violet, black pepper, and tobacco. Palate: Dry, medium+ acid, medium+ tannin, medium+ intensity, full body, 14.9% abv with flavors of blackberry, black pepper, and tobacco with a medium+ finish.

    Balance: Excellent - good job of masking high 14.9% abv

    Complexity: Very Good-Excellent

    For as big of a wine as this is it is balanced remarkably well. It feels quite youthful yet, but I'm not sure how well this will age. As the fruit here ages into dried/stewed characteristics I suspect the balance will give way as the alcohol overpowers the fading fruit. Still drinking well today, but I would drink up over the next 2-3 years.

  • Opened 2 hrs in the bottle. Nose of tar and peat moss with secondary hints of rich blueberry and blackstrap molasses. Palate is similarly earthy with a bit more blue and black fruit, but good restraint and balance. Medium silty fine tannins, medium acidity.

  • Purple in color. 14.9% ABV. 69% Mourvedre, 21% Syrah and 10% Grenache. Showstopping nose of red and blue fruits, garrigue and white pepper. Full bodied with mouth watering acidity. Exceptionally smooth and polished. Boysenberry, kirsch liqueur, smoke and chocolate on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish. Such a decadent wine. Best over the next 4-6 years.

    (Force Majeure Parvata) Hello friends. Force Majeure is clearly now a top tier Washington winery When they launched, they were truly pioneers of the steepest, rockiest parts of upper Red Mountain. With a distinct vision—revolutionary viticulture practices and world-class wines—their first estate vineyard was purchased in 2004 and began development in 2006. This super steep vineyard has eight distinct soil types, all brought to Red Mountain by either the Missoula floods, heavy wind, or volcanic activity. The elevation ranges from 960 to 1,230 feet above sea level, and varieties are planted in many small micro-blocks, matching clonal selection, trellising, and irrigation to the soil itself. Grenache and Syrah are planted in the rocky shallow soil of the upper slope. Cabernet and Merlot excel in the lower blocks on deep, well-drained Warden soils. It’s a jigsaw puzzle, one that this team invested years of work into figuring out. To understand Force Majeure—the excellence and importance of their wines—is to understand the level of investment it took to bring this vision to life. Parvata—which means mountain in sanskrit—is a southern Rhone blend grown in a sandy, loamy section of the Red Mountain estate. According to the Force Majeure team, the signature signs of these micro-blocks are finesse and high-toned aromatics. 69% Mourvedre, 21% Syrah, and 10% Grenache, this blend was fermented with native yeast in concrete and aged for 18 months in 30% new French Oak. It’s 100% free run juice, and the listed alcohol is 14.9%. It opens with a mixture of Mourvedre’s signature meaty-fruit notes and the high-tone aromatics that were promised from this micro-block: white pepper, citrus pith, and a cabinet worth of dried herbs and spices. Texturally this is a marvel, offering densely packed layers of fruits and savories that fan out and saturate the furthest edges of the palate. It’s astonishing how concentrated this wine is for how bright and lifted it somehow manages to feel. The finish is full of herbaceous and floral tannins with length for days.
