This rating is very subjective since I am such a fan of the old Riesling taste trajectory. It should probably be a notch or two lower. This has definitely entered old territory. I compared directly following the 2018 of this same product, and the apricot is now reduced and the typical old plummy notes have arisen. Still alive, but if I had another bottle, I would use it up now !

This has now crossed the line to a very mature Spätlese Riesling. The grapefruit, lemon, apricot and the other notes are still there, but not distinctly so much anymore. It's all come together as one complex and pure simplicity. Nectar of the gods !

Nose: Nettles, apple and grapefruit. Palate: creamy, weighty body, towards sweet in a good way, honey melon, ripe gapefruit and lemon, a touch of nutmeg, almost a botrytis-note there, layered, minerality and citrus acidity linger in the length, rescuing the mouth from the sweetness. But it takes about an hour after opening to reach its max !
Very enjoyable lemonade for little money: insane qpr ! The reason I don't give a 93 is because I want to have what's left for myself. Can’t stop sipping. Two people at this bottle and it’s gone before the other guests arrive.
Remark: corks and hygiene seem to be a slight problem with the older vintages by this vintner ☺ .

Peach and melon, feathery lightness, and so pure and clean as hardly will anyone guess that it is a 16y old wine.

Private Comparison Of Four Off-Dry Rieslings By Alfred Merkelbach; 5/12/2017-5/19/2017 (At Home): 8.5 % abv.
Before the dryness fundamentalists want to shred this rich style, please educate yourself as to the meaning of "Spätlese".
