This bottle was from an estate disposition and, so, of somewhat questionable provenance. I was pleased that I was able to pull the cork out in one piece with the Ah-So. In the glass the wine was a beautiful dark plum color, albeit, somewhat murky. A dark fruit nose seemed appropriate for a CS. On the tongue I detected blackberry and currant--again, quite expected for a CS. At this point I was ecstatic that there was no sign, at all, of oxidation. Tannin was pretty much resolved, although, there was a very distinct mouth drying sensation. Then, lots of slate, A bit full-bodied, mouthfilling wine. An outstanding wine even though it was a lucky find.

Alluring nose of cedar and asian spices. Little fruit remains, but there is ample spice notes to provide intrigue. A little red cherry towards the finish. A lot of vanilla. Not exactly like drinking wood, but there is substantial evidence of significant oak treatment. Still, very good.

Had this after 3 bottles of Screaming Eagle, one Harlan and a Mondavi reserve (no this is not a normal night, it was a celebration we had been planning for a awhile.) As the night wound down and the decanters emptied, we all wanted one more bottle. What do you open after those five? So we tried to find the least expensive bottle of Napa Cabernet in the cellar. This was that bottle. Obviously, not as good as the previous five, but you know what? it was still very good. We were all surprised. Made us wonder if our palates were worthy of the others. Hopefully we will have the opportunity to try it all again some day. The tasting notes from the other Cabs are in CellarTracker under their names.

Really improving with age. This wine has settled down to show great fruit, great balance and a great smooth finish...
