Post-Christmas Blinds (Chez Nanda): Served double blind. Big nose of exotic white fruits -- dragonfruit, lychee, etc. with spice notes. Took me to Alsace and Gewurtz. The palate has rich, oily fruit with moderate freshness. Some apple and honey notes. A curious wine, but not something I'd reach for. Surprised upon reveal to see this is a Sauv Blanc.

Interesting. Definitely first and last purchase of Austrian Sauvignon Blanc. Big and waxy, with plenty of botrytis, which are probably not good things in the context of the grape.

Blinds at Rich's (Chicago, IL): Served double blind. Thought this was some sort of Alsatian wine, though I couldn't pinpoint what grape it was. It certainly had the palate and texture of one of my most hated grapes, gewurztraminer, but the insane amount of jackfruit on the nose (and lack of expected lychee) made that a terrible guess. At the end of the day, this was just one big headscratcher. There were no identifiable sauvignon blanc characteristics in this wine, though it did have a bunch of botrytis.
