Surprise surprise, another really good ‘96 white. Well resolved, and quite ethereal as it floats on the palate in a weightless manner, very elegant with lots of mineral impressions flowing. It may be on its way down soon but there is serious beauty to behold here with attractive fruit and life left, as if to say, “remember to visit.”

Burgundy Pairs (Le Colombier, London): With its sweaty oxidised nose, this wasn't very appetising, but it was rather better on the palate with its round tropical fruit - but clearly a victim of the pox

Served as pair with 96 Sauzet Referts. Surprisingly, the Carillon was the one poxed rather than the Sauzet. Darker colour, slightly lactic/stale/cheesy nose. However, uite a nice delicate, persistent length.

Rich honeyed, caramel and nutty nose. Mature peach and starfruit. Good balanced citrusy notes along with firm acidity. Old pineapples on the finish.

What a hopeless case, 6 out of 9 bottles so far have been pre oxidized.
