Darkly coloured but not premoxed. A rich, ripe bouquet of poached pears, vanilla bean, honeycomb, nutmeg, limes, peaches and pineapples. On palate, real depth, concentration and power. Opulent, broad and fleshy - reflecting the terroir, bordering Meursault - but with vibrant, intense Puligny-Montrachet acidity. Blanched almonds, pears, lime and lemon citrus, honey and some chalky minerality. There is also a touch of more exotic fruit. Girardin's style can divide people, and particularly, one imagines, with a wine like this. The Combettes is a relatively fat and rich wine, with prominent oak but - in my view - there's more than enough fruit and acidity to balance and offset that creamy oak. Nice development over the last 10 years that adds complexity and interest. Overall, its a delicious wine, there for optimal drinking now or over the next 5+ years, I'd think.

Actually I don't like it, but that's a qualitative not quantitative choice. It's more about the vintage than the producer although that may also be an issue. Hazlenuts, buttered popcorn and Meyer lemon sounds like a winning combo, but this wine is too fat, lacks acidity and has no complexity. For the most part 2010 WBs have been very disappointing and this is no exception.

Girardin's Combette is a mini favorite of mine, but can be inconsistent, this bottle had started to darken, but didn't taste particularly oxidative, in fact it had nice lemons, a hint of minerals and a nice dash of sweetness to balance... this was one of the good bottles

Medium-dark amber/gold. Toasted vanilla, lemon meriunge pie, butter popcorn - rich but not overly funky. Medium-full body with a nice lingering acidity featuring key lime pie, toasted marshmallow, vanilla bean, apricot & grapefruit peel.

Great Burgundy 06-10 tasting Oslo October 2017 (At Kim Aa's place, Ulvøya, Norway): Veldig mørk med overmodent eplepreg. Oksidert.
