DOA. Poured a couple of glasses for fun given the vintage. Textbook nose of fully mature Bordeaux. Texture like wet cardboard. Last year’s version seemed still alive, but this had a lower fill and anyway at this point and for the vintage the odds are heavily stacked against the wine so I’m not fussed.

Little bricking, little sediment. Decanted for 1 hour before first sip, then drunk over 90 minutes. A nice surprise. This slugged far above its weight class. It had the polish, complexity and long finish of LMHB. All this from a so-so year. The wine really started to sing with fruit and tobacco, cedar and currants. Moist earth, dust, moist leaves, on the nose. Fairly long finish. Hard to believe that this bottle bought by chance when stopping at the Chateau without an appointment would end up being so great 26 years later. Wish I had more -- still plenty of gas in the tank.

Honestly a good wine, in a difficult vintage. First nose of dust, wet leather, old paper which quickly evolves with plum and prune, old fruit, tobacco and a bit of vanilla. Not very complex but pleasant. A mouth medium long, with tertiary flavors. To be drunk !
