In magnum. Substantial nose of cassis and roses with a background of tar. Palate is full of bright fruit with a spicy component right up front. Also has a darkness and chewiness flavors with a strong backbone of acidity. The tannins come in early and provide quite a hit of dryness. Seems that this large format is a little less evolved than the last bottle that was less than the typical stellar quality. Classic brilliant Barolo that is a pleasure to drink.

A surprise on the downside. I've rated this one much higher in the past, and this bottle, while nothing at all seems to be the matter with it, it just wasn't up to the power and richness that previous bottles have exhibited. It has no sense of being over the hill, or defective -- it just wasn't as vibrant as before. Had muted classic barolo nose with minerality and floral notes, but nothing much in the way of any tar. Palate was classic nebbiolo dark fruit with moderate acidity and moderate tannins drawing out the finish. Perhaps the magnum I'm harboring will show more of the previous incredible barolo qualities....

Remarkable barolo. Intense nose of cassis and roses with a subtle but big background of tar. Palate is full of bright fruit while also being dark and chewy with a strong backbone of acidity. The tannins come in modestly at the end. This has gotten even better from a couple years ago.

still drinking beautifully. Really nice, mature barolo that still has good fruit.

Subtle cherry fruit and earth on the nose. Fading fruit, soft tannins and sufficient acidity make this very enjoyable but not outstanding.
