  • Great Savennières, showing it's age, but likely in the heart of its drinking window.

  • Exactly what I want out of a Savennières. Dry with so much going on. Amazing depth that could go with so many foods. Elevated acidity, which has been mellowed with age, but still lifts the wine and keeps it fresh. Loved it!

  • A rather advanced bottle, but certainly sound to my palate. Slight note of petrol on the nose, followed by bruised apple, faint hint of sherry, waxy lime peel with searing acidity and a dry finish. This wine is at peak maturity, which, for 2013, could be viewed as encouraging (“hey, these bottles are really coming around and I don’t have to wait 10 years!”) or discouraging (“uh oh, that was fast”) depending on your viewpoint. Or maybe it’s just my bottle. I’d check in soon if I were you

  • Very well balanced between firm, precise acidity and residual sugar on the back. It was very good on its own. I had it with scallop soup (with garlic, and chive). This went reasonably well, but the food kind stripped out the character and nuance of this wine somewhat. I liked it more before (when it was a bit rounder), and after (when the acidity has firmed up).

Savennieres has been hit or miss for me. But this one kind of restores my faith in them again.

  • Very enjoyable. It tastes like grasses and flowers of a fresh water valley. Not too acidic, but it has some tartness like an apple. We had it with mahi mahi, which I don't think was the best combination, but it was fine. If with fish, it would be better with sole or even trout. Would be great with chicken. And frankly, it's pretty nice on its own with nothing or just some cheese and crackers.

I guess Savennieres can age well. I might buy another few bottles to find out! This tasted like it could age.
