This wine would have been rated higher a few years ago. At this point it has lost much of it's fruit and is falling flat on the finish.
However, it tricked a couple of the people at the tasting. We opened it alongside the much more expensive wines from the 1997 vintage. We decanted and tasted them all blind to see if we could identify which was the $40 ZD. One of the other wines blew this away and another was somewhat better, but a third wine was mistaken by two of us as the less expensive ZD. It held its' own among some heavy hitters.

Some black fruit on th nose and palate. Medium bodied with toasted oak on the palate as well. Seemed to be past it's ideal drinking interval.
