Palate: Petrol, saline, grapefruit, lemon. Slight buttery cracker character. Nicely moderated acidity; more round than crisp. Berry, peach, and orange notes.
Finish: Medium length. More grapefruit, cracker, and lemon. The faintest touch of tomato skins.
Overall: A nice and well done GG trocken. I agree with other commenters; this is definitely a lighter style German Riesling. I’d like to see what Kuhling-Gillot’s other wines are like.
Edit: Returning on day 2, the wine has markedly improved. It shows classic Riesling character and is very delicate, crisp, and refreshing.

-- aggressively double-decanted 15 min. before initial taste -- -- tasted non-blind over 2 - 3 hrs. on Day 1; revisited on Day 6 -- -- AP #: ... 42 18 --
NOSE: medium petrol; moderately ripe melon; a touch lactic. Day 6: quite expressive, with a strong tangerine note.
BODY: green-golden color of medium richness; light to medium-light bodied.
TASTE: high acidity -- juicy; lots of mineral; very dry; soft, and a bit creamy -- creamy Orange Julius melon-type thing; faint front-mid palate salty aspect; 12.5% alc. not noticeable; it's tasty, and it's good, but it's not really in "my zone" for dry Riesling. Day 6: hard to pinpoint why, but I'm liking this more today than I was on Day 1 --- more resonance, perhaps --- it has a deeper presence today than on Day 1. I could bump my Day 1 score up to 91 or 92 now. strong HOLD recommendation.
Day 1: 50, 5, 12, 16, 7 = 90 Day 6 gut impression score: 91 - 92

Grosse Gewächs tasting with Sebastian Thomas of Howard Ripley Wines (Zoom tasting): Biodynamic. this is a south facing site comprised of a slope of red slate and red clay running down to the river. Its 80-170m in altitude and the domain has 1 hectare out of 11.32 hectares. 12% a cooler year. Stoney, sweet fruit, some tropical, high acid and very mineral and saline. good length

GGs with Howard Ripley Wines (Zoom!): From Rheinhessen, currently Germany's most exciting region (in part because of the benefits of climate change). The estate was an early convert to biodynamics. Olberg is part of a slope of SE-facing red slate sloping down to the river, with a number of famous sites of which Olberg is the warmest (and has clay, too), leading to rich wines (although this wine is only 12% ABV).
Aromatic, fumy and tropical on the ethereal nose, belying the cooler growing season. Some dusky florals coming through, and quite saline too, particularly on the palate, which almost made me think I was eating white fish seasoned with lemon juice. Mouthwatering and moreish - intensely mineral, and extremely herbal on the finish. Stunning.

Shade pale; lithe, delicate; on the lighter side, refreshing acidity, refined; precise, extended finish.
