Dark ruby with discoloration on edge. Aromas of dark plums, prunes, spice, leather, smoke. Big wine with medium+ acidity, still plenty of smooth tannins. Taste of plums, prunes, dark cherry, dark chocolate, earth. Medium finish.

Morgante Don Antonio back vintage vertical tasting. Drank in Conterno Sensory. Appearance is clear, deep intensity, garnet colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of figs, dark plums, stewed black cherries, raisins/prunes, dark smoky earth. Developed. On the palate, dry, good high acidity, high alcohol, smooth resolved fine medium+ tannins, just making it to full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of savoury umami dark smoky earth, spice, dark plums, stewed black cherries. Medium- finish only. Prunish feels overall. Good quality I suppose, but not for further ageing. At the plateau already and may be downhill soon.

The cork was almost half way stained and still intact. Initially reticent nose, showing later on a bit of funk and licorice. Medium bodied, very smooth with almost resolved tannins, delivering mellow sweet dark fruit with a bit of pepper and licorice and a silky umami type mouthfeel. Not very complex but sooo delicious. Still very much alive and kicking after 15 years.

Impressive at first, pruny yet with decent freshness, but turning into tobacco ashes rather shortly.
