I had to have some nebbiolo and this happened to be the only one in the home cellar so... Clear garnet in color with a slightly orangish rim. The nose was kirsch leading to a fruity middle with raspberries and black cherries and an herbal note. The finish was outstanding with black cherries, herbs (in a good way) and ended with florals. Still tooth-coating tannins and prevalent acidity but the decant really allowed the wine to open up. [$~50 on release; Decanted 1.5 hours and needed every minute; Well-paired with a veal scallopine]

Ecclectic Easter Tasting at Asti Trattoria II (Asti Trattoria, Austin, Texas): Note that this rating is on what I feel the wine will ultimately merit with additional aging. Last night it was a high 80s wine. So much for the professionals' opinions that this wine would drink early - no way. This wine had tooth-coating tannins and high acidity at this point in its development with no evidence of any aging. [$$; Double decanted at the table and it did not help much; Hold onto these; Our next bottle scheduled for 2008]

Ecclectic Easter Tasting at Asti Trattoria (Asti Trattoria): This vino is way young. Almost a shame to have opened this. The oak was rather pronounced and despite very nice layers of truffle and fruit, the high acidity and oak made this seem a bit disjointed. I think this could be great in years to come though.
