  • Soo's birthday: Some greenness but with sweet maraschino cherry fruit. Guessed late-90s Tuscan Bordeaux blend because of the sweetness and polish but this was still very much a restrained wine. Unlike the '96 that I tried previously, definitely will not be mistaken for a Bordeaux. Well-resolved and firmly in its drinking window.

  • Screwcap. Plush and but good. No real tannins but not running out of steam. Lacks Bordeaux savouriness but a good NW example on a par with 2014 Kanonkop PS alongside.

  • Smooth but lacking in depth. At this price there are superior Australian alternatives

  • Appearance: medium garnet.
Nose: medium intensity; aromas of roasted meat, raspberry, toast, green olive, nutmeg, tomato leaf, redcurrant, savoury, balsamic, bay leaf, subtle tar. It's developing.
Palate: dry, high acidity, medium plus tannins very silky, medium alcohol, medium plus body, pronounced flavour intensity, savoury, meaty come through. The finish is long.
Overall, it's an outstanding wine. Can drink now, has potential for further ageing.
Elegant and finesse. Very much Bordeaux style made in new world. Great balance between the high acidity, red fruits, meaty characters and smooth, silky tannins. Light but no lack of flavour intensity. Lingering and persistent finish with charming Parma prosciutto like savouriness. Brilliant wine and drink perfectly well now. Comparing to 2002 vintage (under cork), this bottle (under screwcap) is a little more developed. Vintage difference or bottle variation? Not sure. But it should keep at least another 3-5 years.

(CULLEN Cab/Merlot Diana Mad) Friday SPECIAL #2 Dear Friends, A few classically oriented Friday Specials to round out the week - both of these are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED and should be about the lowest prices in the world, especially with this level of provenance which is directly from the source - tough to pick between the two as they are quite different but if you like Cabernet, specifically Bordeaux, you won’t go wrong with either - have a great weekend: 2003 Cullen Cabernet/Merlot (Diana Madeline) (The response to the last offer for Cullen had me on a pilgrimage to find additional vintages of this wine. This came up today and I didn’t hesitate - another great and what should be long-lived classic - Jeremy Oliver 95pts) 1999 Yeringberg “Cabernets” (Yarra Valley) (Want to see if Yarra Valley Cabernet can age, here’s your chance - another of the more famous wines in Oz that few know anything about in the US) Both have been impeccably stored since release. Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Aus7420 Aus7430
