Bright clear golden color but much darker than the one from the winery that I rated 100pts. Subtle nose displaying dry apricot, peach, smoke, sweet spices and mineral. Very good concentration, finely layered, rich yet fluid, medium acidity and mineral, and a long ripe yellow fruit driven finish. I love the texture but slightly tired.

initially the nose was absolutely beautiful, with classic petrol and white flowers, slightly more ripe and marmalade than expected. But there was also a little bit of straw and wet cardboard, so we weren't sure whether this was lightly corked or just reductive. There was still plenty of toasty notes, though.

(Egon Muller Scharzhofberger Auslese) This bottle seemed a touch more mature than the last one I had six months ago. Another texture bomb. Layers upon layers of pure, sappy, ripe apricot and white fruits. Long complex finish with a hint of tangelo and caramel. Leather and spice start to develop after aropund twenty minutes adding to the complexity. Amazing freshness for a 30+ year old wine. Stunning as usual.
(Egon Muller Scharzhofberger Auslese) Orange color with just explosive aromas of slight petrol, leather, fig, tangelo, minerals and brtown sugar. Nose kept changing and eventually a hardcore savory element (foie gras?) came through. The palate was friggin' sublime. Creamy, concentrated, pure, finessed with incredible dazzling fruit served up on a plate of the finest minerality. Just an amazing finish that has a lightness of touch but is so precise you are just in awe. Hints of the finest caramel you can imagine just linger on your palate forever. It had incredible freshness for a 30+ year old wine. And it kept getting better and better.

Prep for The Tenth Edition of the Villa d'Este Wine Symposium (Bistro Bis - Washington D.C.): As an old adage goes… “"There are no great old wines, only great bottles." The bottle from Egon’s cellar that I drank in 2013 was perfect. Unfortunately this had a strong musty note.

great acidity here, with polyurethane, flint, lemon, and white flowers on the nose. Very elegant.
