    A: medium ruby to garnet
N: Pronounced sweet violet, black cherry, black plum, bramble, fig, dark chocolate, cola, vanilla, clove, smoke, tobacco. Dried fruit
P: Dry, medium (+) acidity, medium (+) chalky tannins , high alcohol, full body, pronounced intensity and medium (+) finish
C: Outstanding quality wine. The high alcohol gets a reprieve from the acidity. There is a nice balance of primary, tertiary and secondary here.
    Guesses:
Amarone. The sweet violet, dried cherry and chocolate bomb wrapped in high alcohol and lush tannin. Nothing else it was going to be. I got vanilla, cloves and smoke from maybe new oak so a modern style like Allegrini or Masi rather than the traditional Amarone of Quintarelli and Bertani which take decades to hit something beautiful and take another 20 to reach their peak. The traditional amarone doesn't really see a lot of oak until you get to Reserve styles. The trick was guessing the age. I saw garnet and so I thought 10-15 yers modern style Amaarone. I wasn’t wrong.

  • Monthly Tuesday group "The Dead Sparrow" #045: Amarone (@ The factory by JdB): Rustic and quite mature bouquet with celery, mocha, tea and currants. Same on the palate, sweet soy sauce, chocolate and honey licorice. Drinkable and still pleasant, but quite old. No score.

  • Pretty old now, more developed than expected.

  • Ruby red with hints of orange brown and slow glycerol legs. On the nose, prunes, plums, earthy overtones. On the palate, prunes, raisins, dried cherries, raisins and chokeberries (Nuts.com). Finish had plenty of dark dried berries a melange of prunes and raisens plenty of earthy texture and was rich and long. Much better than the last bottle. On the second night it came together in a rich prune, plum, raisin compote with a touch of black licorice on the back palate.

(Allegrini Amarone della Valpolicella Classico) Zante currants and dried plums perfume this full-bodied, seductive wine. The midpalate is quite spicy, with cumin, cinnamon, and allspice following through to a long, raisiny finish. The Veneto: A Quality Renaissance
