  • Decanted and then followed over a few hours. This was a bit tight for the first hour or so, but it opened up very nicely. Great weight and energy here. Seems to be a strong vintage for this Chateau, and another five years or more will only make this better.

  • Still seems so young, but starting to open. Lots of juicy red fruit and savoury finish. Lovely. I'll try the next one next year.

  • Was looking forward to this after previous notes that were very effusive. Agree that this is a great vintage for Magdelaine but this still rather primary and youthful. Started off a little slick with a very silky texture, but with a lovely purity and balance. With time the dark red fruit developed a gritty edge that I preferred to its earlier showing

  • Sleek, concentrated and intense. Not nearly as restrained or red fruited as the 2009, but this is the better wine to me by a good margin.

  • While still young, this is a good time to check in on this wine, as it is quite rewarding at this stage. Once the nose opens up, you are greeted with a mineral-laden dark berry profile, and a forest floor and eucalyptus hint with a load of graphite. Immediately on the palate, and most surprising (to me) is the salinity this wine possesses - to me, unique for a Bordeaux, and it is quite prevalent. Dark fruit profile, good ripeness, touch of coffee as well, sweet fruit continues on the finish which is quite long. Mouthfeel is silky, with big round tannins integrated with the fruit. Good acidity, solidly into its secondary phase, really an enjoyable wine at present but one that feels like it has still so many layers and stuffing to change and develop further.
